Ionic battery mysteriously dead. 93% to 0% in 4 hours.

I typically charge my Ionic at least once per day. Every single time I take a shower I set my Ionic on the charger. This morning I took it off the charger and it read 93% battery level. Everything is normal so far. Around noon (only a few hours later) I noticed my Ionic's screen wasn't turning on (no quick display). I clicked the buttons trying to get anything to show up on the screen with no luck. I try pressing the left and bottom buttons simultaneously and something finally shows up on the screen! A big fat 0% battery level and then it cuts off.

I have never taken my Ionic swimming. I have noticed that when I'm exercising and the Ionic is tracking me via GPS the battery will die slightly faster than idle but that is normal. What happened here is that my battery went from 93% to 0% in the span of 4 hours. I have no idea why. I've only had my Ionic for a few months now. Does anyone have any idea what caused this and how to avoid having it happen in the future? Very irritating.

@Shattersong Welcome to the Community. Thanks for the details mentioned and the troubleshooting tried.

Sorry to hear that you experienced this with your watch. It's pretty weird that your watch's battery went from 93% to 0% in a period of 4 hours. I would like you to restart your Ionic to avoid this from happening in the future and continue monitoring it.

Hi Silvia,

So the battery mysteriously died again. For clarity I will add a timeline of what happened.

Monday (December 9th)

7:30am - Ionic charged to 93%

12:30pm - Ionic completely dead at 0%

6:30pm - Ionic charged to 30%

Tuesday (December 10th)

7:00am - charged to 77%

8:30am - restarted Ionic

9:30pm - charged to 85%

Wednesday (December 11th)

1:32am - Fitbit notification on my phone states "Your Ionic battery level is low"

7:30am - Ionic is completely dead at 0%

8:50am - Ionic charged to 65%

So at this point I need to have this Ionic fixed or replaced. I'm fairly confident there is a problem with the battery but I can't pinpoint why it depletes to zero so quickly. Who do I need to talk to about having Fitbit examine my Ionic and hopefully repair it?

Hi there,

Did you update to the latest firmware recently?

I did last week and I'm now experiencing heavy battery drain.

I have an average battery consumption around 5% per hour.

I think this could be related

It's possible that it is a firmware issue as I keep my Ionic up to date and typically sync it at least once daily. The fact that it's happened twice in a three day period is disconcerting to say the least. I would like to send it into Fitbit to have them look at it. Fortunately, I've only had the Ionic for a few months so it should be under warranty; however, I'm not sure how to initiate this process of sending my Ionic in for Fitbit to examine.

When I got to settings on my Ionic, the "Version" is listed as 27.33.1.30.

Is this the firmware version that is causing issues?

Mine is using 27.70.7.14 (directly extract from the setting / parameter of the Ionic)

Maybe a watch face or an app then?

@SilviaFitbit

So is the strategy just to ignore the sudden battery failures until my warranty is up so Fitbit won't have to fix/replace it?

curious as to why you feel the need to charge your Ionic daily.  How long have you had it? Also to note that any Li-On battery as used in the Ionic has a maximum number of charge/discharge cycles, if you are charging every day you could effectively exhaust the battery in as little as 18 months due to the average lifespan of 500-1500 cycles.

I had same issues with battery after the Fitbit update. Did you recently get the update? If so, that may be your issue. Fitbit will deny issues created by update though.

I reseted my Ionic and didn't install any other watchfaces. Just used standard Fitbit app on it...

Battery still being drained. Around 5% per hour.

I'll try reaching out the support. Mine is still under warranty. I'll see what they say.

Depending the answer, I'll might have to leave Fitbit after so many years...
