Ionic counting steps when placed on a desk

I typically average between 5k-10k steps on active days. Over the past 4 days, my ionic has been achieving over 10k steps a day. Yesterday, I was close to 50k steps, today I'm already at 8k steps today and it's only 10am. 

I've done a factory reset, reinstalled the companion app, cleaned the sensor at the rear of the device and it's still over counting my steps.

I owned a Surge before upgrading to the Ionic less than 2 years ago when it came out. This is the first time I am having this issue and I've not done anything differently.

Can you please advice if this defect can be rectified as I don't know what else I can do.

It's pretty weird that your Ionic is showing you many more steps than what you're doing. I've shared your post with our Support team and they've mentioned you already have a case with them, please continue the communication through email, they will continue assisting you.
