Ionic counts steps on its own tirelessly and doesn't stop

Hi all, I updated my ionic fitbit two days ago and at first it didn't count any steps. I restarted it and after that it just keeps counting even when it is sitting on the table on its own (it did 60,000 over night).

I tried several shut downs, resetting to factory settings but nothing changed. Anyone knows how to solve this situation as I can't use it like this.

Thank you!

Vanja

I had exactly the same problem.  After multiple resets, software installs, etc., still nothing. I must have invested 12-14 hours in this. Fitbit's response was "you are out of warranty, here is a discount code."

I didn't use the discount code, I bought a Garmin.  3 months in, not a single problem.  It even updates firmware automatically and on the fly.  The first day I had it, it ran updates (while counting steps) while I was working in the yard.

I was a loyal fitbit user dating back to the Fitbit Ultra.  Between my wife and I we have owned 10 fitbits, replacing them only when I liked newer features or one was lost.  My ChargeHR, Flex, and Blaze all still work.  My ionic, only a little over one year.

Bye bye fitbit.

Agreed! Customer service said they were going to send me a discount code and never did! They couldn't even get that right! My sweet husband bought me a replacement fitbit which I am going to return and get a samsung. I was a faithful Fitbit customer, but no longer!

Good news people!

I reported the problem to FItbit, via the website and after a few questions and answers were exchanged they sent me a replacement Ionic which is working fine - the whole process took about a week. Given my experience I am happy with the service, I can’t say what will happen in the future with my replacement, but fingers crossed.

Mine does the same thing, but I already had to use the warranty and now my Fitbit is now counting steps and it is so annoying. What do I do

I have had the same issue over the last 2 days and have reset, as well as changed my clock face with no luck in stopping the high false step counting...

Just to note my watch has now been swapped by Fitbit twice under warranty; once for hyper step counting as above and more recently when the screen died on me. To be fair Fitbit swapped them both for new.

As I mentioned before: there is no official support for this issue.
Also as you can see, alot of people are complaining about this issue. The 'fix' for everyone in here is to buy a new one, or to buy another product from another company.
There is no Fitbit support for this issue. The ONLY 'support' you get, is default replies from Fitbit support, as if you were talking to a bot.

I was lucky, I still had a warranty. So I took a new Fitbit Ionic. So far this is 90% ok. Last update killed my notifications again (repeating issue over the years for a lot of people as you see in this forum). nevertheless rebooting the device helps for now.

In short: buy a new device. It's so sad, and I sound so pessimistic, but sadly this is the truth...
Call Fitbit, and you'll get the same reply what you can do. It won't work.

Srry mate...

Finally after 3rd Ionic gave up the ghost after the guarantee run out: I decided to get a Charger 4 Special Addition, cheaper, more reliable and thus far I am very happy!

after multiple restarts - it won't restart now. For awhile ,  it seems like someone was trying to hack into my watch - continuously entering pin codes like some ghost.

That doesn’t sound good friend. I hate the Ionic with a passion!

Had three ionic all failed, eventually changes to a Charge 4 SE, no problems since. Contact customer services, they will swap it out or swap it for another my friend!

Hi, I tried every thing I could think of to fix this before contacting
Fitbit support. My Ionic was within the 2 year warranty so they replaced it
free of charge.

I hope this helps. 🙂
