I've had the Ionic for almost two weeks now. At first I couldn't figure out the circumstances and thought crash was random, but have figured out that when I start my car, if the screen is not actively on, the Fitbit shuts off. I have tested this with the app on my iPhone open and synced and with the app closed and that doesn't matter. My guess is that the car searching and connecting to my phones Bluetooth signal is causing some kind of interference with the Ionic in it's rest/sleep mode that shuts it down. It comes up with the ten second button hold restart, but then the time is loaded to where the watch Ionic shut off, and no steps have been recorded. First time this happened I didn't catch it for over an hour.
Anyone else having this happen to them? I haven't tested it with my wife's car (Honda Odyssey) to see if it's also car specific, but clearly reproducible in my car (Subaru Outback).

Hi @Broncosfan9798,
Well that's a new one to me. Haven't read any posts about this issue. If you can test with the Subaru it may show definitively what situation is causing it.
I also recommend you open a ticket with Fitbit Support, so they are aware of it.

I have a Subaru Outback (MY16) and have not experienced the issue you describe.

I have the same model year. Glad yours is playing nice. Between going to work and running errands, I've had to restart the Ionic four times today alone. It is completely reproducable now. If the screen is resting when the car starts, it won't turn on either with wrist turn or manually pushing the button and it has to be reset. If the screen is on/active, no problem. I'm hoping it's the device. No response so far from support. Bought it at REI so will return it and try one more time with another unit.

I've never asked this question before.
Have you investigated to see if your car is on the latest firmware?

I have a Toyota Camry and bought the ionic and am having the exact same shut down issues. At first I thought it was random, now I'm realizing it's def the car. Would love to know if this is a watch specific defect (worth an exchange), or if this is all the ionics?

Or (again) the car firmware! I'm not joking.

I just had the car serviced and asked them to check. No updates pending so no changes.

So I returned the original Ionic (hooray my decision to buy it at REI aka Return Every Item) and picked up a new one. On Day 1 of use the same issue in the same context is occurring. Tried doing a factory reset and no difference. Have an open ticket with support and hopefully will hear something back soon.

Wonder if you need a car lighter socket or USB surge protection.
My car socket to 4 socket USB has it built it.

Wow.. This wonderful Community sends us off to some amazing test scenarios.. Keeps my brain young...
I have an Australian built GMH Holden and no issues with any of my Fitbits listed in my signature.
@SunsetRunnerGreat that you're spreading the word about signatures.. It would save a great deal of angst if we knew more about a postee.. Many probably aren't aware of how to include a signature..
Just click on their Community profile image, then click Profile, then.... just hover over the Signature area and the edit pencil will appear.. When done, just click Update..

Would it be possible to create a separate thread on this? Would be very useful.

I've never had this issue before, if anything, just the opposite has happened to me...my 2015 car has helped me sync my Ionic to my phone!

So you stated that your ionic is the weakest link in security to hack into your phone. The probability of a hack may perhaps be low however shouldn't you be concerned that your private data is now vulnerable for theft?
The same goes for the person @Broncosfan9798 who presented this issue.
I am extremely pleased I returned ionic as these types of vulnerabilities bother me.
All users who have enabled fitbit pay should really be concerned. This issue is not something that can be ignored.

??? Er... Nobody mentioned anything about security until you turned up. Keep taking the tablets.

I never mentioned that I use Fitbit Pay (which I don't). Although, to be fair, I do agree with you in concept, which is why I never enabled it. I also don't sync it to my phone to begin with. Why it syncs to my car when I don't tell it to sometimes is beyond me.
