Hi All,
I’ve had my Ionic since Christmas but this is the first time i have tried a bike ride with it. I decided to let the Ionic recognize the ride instead of starting it manually, to see if it would operate correctly. It did not. I rode for 30+ minutes and it didn’t recognize anything. It added minutes to my activity log but it is suppposed to recognize a bike ride, like it recognizes a walk. I have it set it recognize the ride after 10 minutes in the app. What else needs to happen to get it started? I didn’t want. The GPS runnning and I am hoping this is not another flaw.
Flaws to date with mine are:
1. ) Fails to recognize many steps in smaller increments (I.e. back and forth in the kitchen while cooking, etc.)
2.) Will not shut off after a swim. I have to get out of the pool with it still running and then wait a few minutes until I can finally get the buttons to work and get it to shut off, then edit the swim time in the app.
3.) Apparently will not auto recognize a bike ride.
Thanks for any help you can provide with the bike ride!
PS-I know that I can manually add the exercise but what I would like to know is why it didn’t work in the first place.

Hello @New_Jen let's look at some if your points
While in the kitchen taking smaller stepd, it is possible that carring a pot or dish will buffer the up/down movemts and steps may not be counted. Also your Fitbit will not count any step count less than 5 between pauses.
As for swimming, the buttons should not be pressed while the tracker is in the water or faikrly wet. Water on the touch screen will also play havack to the controls, have you tried drying the watch off with a towel?
If you you want the GPS durring a ride then you will need to use the multisport mode called bike. The GOS dies not run with the auto detect of a bike ride

Hi Rich,
thanks for the response. I didn't mean to accept it as a solution, though; that was automatically checked on my phone. I will try to undo it when I get home or repost the question.
I didnt want want to use the GPS as per my post. I would like to know why the Ionoc failed to pick up the activity automatically.
As for the other, neither buttons nor touchscreen have worked to turn off a swim. Per other posters the button should be useable, Regarding steps, I am not generally carrying pots/pans and where does it say it doesn't recognize 5 steps or fewer? That would explain it but is disconcerting. Other frackers have counted these steps without fail and I've not heard that the ionic can't? Would count for some of the steps the ionic fails to count vs the One but certainly not all.
Thanks.

You can always turn the GOS off and still use the manual multisport mode.
I'll let you figure out how to unmark the solution xx you can do this from any browser, including the one on the phone.

I understand I can turn the GPS off and use manual mode; that is not what I'm asking. I purposely chose to see how the Ionic would do with an auto activity besides walking.
Again, the question is why the Ionic failed to recognize the activity as it should have.

I can not answer this, since I have no way to look at the data from your tracker, nor would I know what I was looking at.
The bike rides auto detect for me, but I prefer to see the distance.

Thanks; I am hoping someone out there has had a similar issue and a solution.
My settings in the app have auto detect turned on and for Outdoor Biking the setting is 10 minutes.
For walking it works fine; I've had to turn it off as it will detect me walking around the house while on a phone call as a "walk." I've also seen "Sport" detect when I've been doing chores that are more active. So, was curious to see what success people have had with biking.
