Ionic doesn't let me pause or end swim

Hi so I have now worn my Ionic for 2 swims... I do 40 lengths breaststroke... it never counts the first length, which I can kind if live with, however both times it will not let me pause the swim or end it, I have tried completely drying my hand and the screen, but it just keeps the clock ticking. I then have to press all 3 buttons to get it to do anything at all and then when I sync it hasnt recorded any swim data at all. Just active minutes and steps! So infuriating!!

I had to use the buttons on the right side of the watch for the swimming function
