I just bought a new Ionic last week, while on a trip to the US.
Initially it was not showing the heart rate but after resetting the device (as recommended) it worked fine (I did not check the accuracy of the readings though).
In any case, I wore it while sleeping last night and when I woke up it was showing the heart rate just fine.
After I took it off to recharge and put it back after some minutes, the heart rate reading stopped working and I have already tried all that is said to work (reset, shut it down, sync, etc) and the heart rate still does not show.
I chatted with the users support but the support person, while attentive and willing to help, could not solve the issue.
Has anyone had this issue before and, if so, how was it solved?
I just hope I do not have to replace the device.
Thanks.

I wish I had reviewed all these messages before wasting money on this ionic watch. Heart rate has me at 180 when I’m sat down ...it doesn’t even record through the night properly and when spinning or extreme assertions it just stop saying recording all toghether ...asked for IT for help but absolutely wasted my time. I’m going to take this back

My ionic has also lost heart rate. I have have done everything except factory reset. Very disappointed.

Mine never was able to track heart rate. Factory reset and followed all instructions from support. Still no heart rate. LED flashes and it counts steps. Very Very disappointed in fitbit. Will never buy another one of their products. This was a waste of money and time. I hope this post warns others about the ionic.

Yes many times. I also get a message to put the ionic on power and set down for 15 seconds to calibrate...which is very frustrating since I do it and nothing happens.
The HR was working for the first couple of months and then stopped. I did not have any issues with the HR on my Charge HR.

I have been a fitbit user since the original belt loop. My son had a Surge and has now opted out and moved to Garmin. For now I am staying with the ionic until I can afford to t
upgrade to something that works but will definitely not be a fitbit

This worked for me. Turn Heat Rate ON on the device itself. There is no such setting through the dashboard.

This has never worked for me since my HR stopped. Also noticed that notifications are not working even though all settings in the app are on...
Ionic sucks and is a very expensive step tracker and digital watch

One other thing came to mind that it seems that my HR and notifications stopped working after I upgraded the firmware on the ionic. I can't say for sure since i cannot remember exactly when they stopped working since it has been a couple of months.

I can't confirm this, but I suspect that the heart rate monitor is getting turned off when a firmware update is performed. I haven't had an issue with the monitor until I took the latest firmware update. Could be a coincidence.
I can't also say that it is VERY easy turn turn it on/off accidentally. When I went to turn it on yesterday in the settings menu ON THE DEVICE it was flipped off again when I use my finger to scroll up. I must have put my finger on the monitor setting again (even for a second) and flipped it off. That's way too sensitive. Fitbit should redo settins with a check box off to the left or right that you can toggle on and off. Right now, the entire row acts as a toggle. So, it's super easy to change a setting you didn't mean to.

I have turned it on and off. Sometimes I see the light on the back not blinking and I will go into the settings and see that HR is on and when I turn it off and then back on and the light starts to flash but still no HR on the device. After a while I will get a message to put it on power and set it down for 15 seconds to calibrate...but doing that does not seem to do anything and the device still does not monitor HR

Since I started this thread, and it has been two months since I bought this device, I believe I must update everyone ( @Fitbit included) that the heart rate never really worked as it should, that is to actually record the heart rate all the time.
I did lots of restars, turn off and on again and again, calibrations and whaterver else anyone recommends that could give me any hope.
As I naively, bought this stuff during a trip to the U.S (I live in Brazil where there is no fitbit representative), brought it home and cannot return it to the retailer (Best Buy) unless I am there in person with my credit card and id, I will have to keep it to remind me of my stupidity.
Through all this ordeal, however, I noticed one thing that may be of interest to someone.
The heart rate works with some regularity when the batery is below 50 or 40% but whenever I recharge it, it stops working..
After recharging, if I do not perform a factory reset, HR will not work at all until the batery reaches a level below 50% charge.
Maybe it is really a hardware bug but I cannot image that a company like Fitbit, that wants to compete in this tracker and welness market, could let this happen and, even worse, let the users be frustrated with the product and do nothing.
Very frustrated and disapointed.
Fitbit never again!
Happy new year to everyone (without Fitbit, of course).

I hear you Roberto,
I have had good experience with FitBit customer service in the past. I'm not sure how they are now. But just for kicks you might want to try to reach out to them and see if they can send you a new one for free. These things are really expensive and I should think they would want to go "the extra mile" to keep customers in such a crowded market.
I haven't noticed the issue you were talking about (recharging, heart monitor not working, reset). Since I have to charge mine today, I'll see if I have the same problem.
I also have a feeling that they may have released this product too soon (to compete with Apple?).
I would not have purchased it, but my company gives me a fitness allowance for things like this. Still, $320 is a lot of money for something that does very little. I mainly got it for the form factor and that it had a GPS. I tried the Samsung Gear and it was beautiful, but way too big. Some of the Garmins are big too. I considered Apple Watch but you have to have an Apple product to use it (how lame is that), so the best choice was either a Charge2 or Ionic.
Again, try pinging customer service and see if they can help you. It's worth a shot.

Mine stopped working today. Was in the car riding to the grocery when I noticed. I haven't checked on how to restart the device so I haven't tried that. Sounds like it will need exchanged.

Mine stopped working a day after being charged and I noticed I wasn't getting notifications via the watch after the first few days of using it. I've owned mine for around 2 weeks.

My issues with losing HR started out sporadically then the other day the sensor wasn't working at all. After going through all the appropriate hoops to get HR working again I decided to punt and do a factory reset and so far (2 days), HR is working fine. Fingers crossed.

My sensor is working but the ionic does not track HR and keeps asking to be put on the charger to calibrate but that does not help either
