Ionic is dead and will not charge

My ionic completely died and I have tried to charge it for a few days now through that USB on my computer and in the wall with no luck. According to the app it says my battery is completely dead and phone will not connect to it. I have cleaned the cable and connections but the charger works for my wifes, so I know its the watch. I'm not sure what else to do? I've tried to restart it holding the buttons with no luck? Can someone please help?

Yep, same here! Called Fitbit and I’m just passed the warranty, so all they would offer is 25% off of another device. This is my fourth device not including the Aria scale that also stopped working. I felt bad, so I didn’t even bother calling about that. Just chalked it up as a loss. So much for being a loyal customer!

@MarreFitbit, your suggestions are great, but no luck. I have even charged for 18 hours!

Thanks Joe.

just happened to read your post. Mine died in July at age 14 months. Thought I was past the warranty until I read your post and remembered that my credit card also extends the warranty by a year. I still have a few months to get a new one. Now starts the paperwork.

Thanks for sharing.

Jack

P.S.  If the credit card company gives me cash back I may consider another exercise watch. If there is one that is more long lasting.

Hi there.
I’ve got the same problem.  My Ionic ran out of battery, and now when I plug it in to recharge, it’s not charging.  I’ve thoroughly cleaned the contacts on both the watch and the charger cable, using an alcohol swab, but no go.  I’ve also tried it in several different power points.  I know the USB to power point is not the problem, as I can charge my phone with the same USB, so it’s either the cable or the watch.

My hunch is It’s the cable, but of course I can’t be sure.

Please get back to me ASAP.

Regards,

Karl

Sorry but this is a known issue. The Ionic just dies. No work around no
support from Fitbit just buy something else, unless you got the extended
warranty.

Why did you ask him to check charger again? He already told you that the charger worked fine for his wife. Just shows that you don't read messages and resort to cut & paste from your scripts as the stock reply.

The same thing happened to me, Fitbit doesn’t seem to care at all! Time to switch to an Apple Watch.

Same thing happens to my Ionic after new updates . . . watch hangs during update and will not shutdown or charge or restart . . .talked to customer service and they could only offer 30% discount on a new one . . . watch is only just over a year old so why would I buy another one.Watch needs better reset functionality. Support also suggested letting the power drain all the way out which could take two or three weeks . . . again makes no sense . . . still looking for a reasonable solution that works . . .

I tried all of the suggestions and the screen remains blank. It will not respond to the charger (yes it is plugged in!). I am looking at other brands of smart watches.

So mine has suffered the complete failure. I've owned the watch for less than two years. It would do this almost since new but the reset with the buttons would work. I guess I should have requested warranty before it was up. Oh well I should have known better. Before the Ionic I went through two Surge's. I can't see myself purchasing another one. Starting to look at an Apple watch.

Good idea. Fitbit won’t do anything about and I’m not going to keep spending a couple hundred dollars every year! I’m currently using an Apple Watch and it works great.

Funny at first when you post a problem, the fitbit support people are quick to respond but once more and more of the same troubles come up, the support team disappears. Wow! What poor customer service. This is an obvious design flaw and giving 25% discounts is a slap in the face. Looking at a Garmin Vivomove HR now. I don't see people complaining about a poor design with the Garmins.

This response does NOT work on my ionic.  Please dig a little deeper and and tell us how to bring it back to life.  I simply ran it to zero battery and it shut off.  It refuses to start back up and show any sign of life.  Is it junk now or is there a fix.  I tried the restart options listed, cleaned the contacts, nothing.  Assumed the usb might be bad and plugged into a different usb, tried a wall outlet, etc. - Still dead.

Their support is useless.  They're clueless.
