Ionic is sweet, but still needs to mature.

Hi,

I finally gave in and purchased a ionic watch. It makes it my third fitbit.

The interface or watch display reminded me to much of the blaze. And when I use the Ionic I don't want to be reminded of the blaze. I want to know I'm using the ionic. Sure, there are some features that are distinct to the ionic but an overall view makes it feel like a glorified blaze watch. It would be good if they could mature the display more to be specific to ionic and differentiate this device from other Fitbit.

Another flaw. The animation isn't smooth on this watch. Swiping around from left to right, there is stuttering and not a fluid motion. The same goes fore the blaze. But in the newer blaze firmware there is a good improvement I noticed. And the charge 2 is fluid as water when the first charge was slow. I'm confident the hardware behind the watch can handle it. It's just a matter of maturing and optimizing the code that runs the OS. Improve the asthetics and fluidity if the watch so there is no stuttering or hesitiation moving above.

For example, I also have test Android ware, I've seen apples watch, and I own a Samsung s3. The s3 is more of a watch than it is fitness tracker. I'm not a fan of samsung health either, Android ware also seem to focus more on smart watch than fitness, and same goes to Apple. All are great at being smart watches. But lack on fitness.

Fitbit is amazing on fitness but lack on smart watch. But I found that the Fitbit os and first smart watch provides a better balance. But as is with many new products they aren't perfect at launch and need time to mature. This is why I provide my feedback here.

If Fitbit releases alot of the new features I hear about and improves on current feature in the next firmware updates that will strike I believe a nice balance between smart watch and fitness and really improve the reputation of the ionic.

Just posting this to see how others may feel.

@SunsetRunner I hope you're doing well! Thanks for all of the feedback provided. Fitbit is always looking for ways to improve their devices. Ionic is pretty new and it's the first Fitbit watch you can download apps specifically for it.

Once it "matures" more, more apps will come. Lots of apps will come, there are a lot of developers working on that on Fitbit Labs. So, future is friendly. I personally believe that awesome stuff is coming for Ionic.

I have to say, I'm quite disappointed with the pace and scope of updates so far. There are a ton of improvements that could be made to the Ionic in software/firmware which would improve quality-of-life for all users and make the device more competitive with other smartwatches, but none of them have been implemented.

When the device was first released, I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt since it was brand new and Fitbit had probably been under a lot of time pressure to get it out the door. But it's been almost 4 months now and firmware updates have been few and far between, and the only major feature added was the release of the app store. That's great and all, but so far the store apps are underwhelming, and the built-in apps haven't been improved at all. In particular, the exercise app desperately needs more activities, but at this point I'm not holding my breath for that happening at all.
