I tried swimming with Ionic today. I entered that I was in a 25 yard pool. I swam 10 laps and Ionic calculated it as 225 yards. 10x25=225 according to Ionic. What gives? Also I was swimming freestyle and it registered as backstroke.
Best AnswerThis is only the second time I swam with ionic. The first time the calculated pace was off and I assumed it was maybe because it was factoring in my rest time which didn’t make sense either since I paused it between sets. I suspect it was because the distance was miscalculated then as well and I didn’t notice because it tracked the number of laps properly. Both times it identified backstroke instead of freestyle. I don’t know how to change that. So 2 swims so far and both somewhat underwhelming. I’ve only had it 10 days and I’m still trying to figure it out so I’m not giving up yet. Just read a post last night that it is not designed for triathlon use which is also disappointing. Hoping for an app for that.
Best AnswerThis is not an isolated incident. I too swam with it a few times and have the same problem. My guess it has to do with the lack off arm movement during kick-off, causing the distance to be not registered when arms are not moving. At any rate, it at least tracked the pool lengths accurately when it worked.
Best AnswerIt is true that the laps were counted properly and I don’t have a problem with manually correcting the distance but here’s the thing. When you enter distance for swimming it has to be in miles or kilometers. I swim in a 25 yard pool so I have to convert the yardage to miles or kilometers - not very accurate. The really frustrating part is that the app then converts it back to yards! This has been an ongoing frustration for nearly 2 years of using the Fitbit charge and manually entering my swim workouts. I thought that this might be corrected with the Ionic since it has a swim feature. But it doesn’t appear to have been.
