Latest software & firmware installed.

Have followed advice elsewhere, performed a factory reset, removed from my bluetooth devices on phone and resynced, I even tried adding as a totally new device, but will not display any messages from chosen apps, be it WhatsApp, calendar, text etc.

Have you checked that notifications are turned on in the quick settings of the app. Thank you for including the phone model when asking about a phone issue.

The best place to start is app permissions and permissions in the notification center.

Receive call, text message, calendar, and other notifications on your Fitbit watch or tracker if you have a compatible phone.
My Fitbit device isn't receiving notifications from my phone
