Ionic not accurately counting swimming laps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I swim with my ionic and always swim 1500m. When I start out, it counts lengths accurately, but by the time I am on 300 or 400 meters, it starts counting lengths in the middle of the pool or double counting laps. By the time I am done, a 1500m swim is tracked closer to 2000m+. There doesn't appear to be any specific pattern with when it double counts, and this never happened previously - I had swam ~25+ times with it prior to this issue occurring. Called FitBit and after 30 minutes all I had done is restarted the FitBit, which didn't solve the issue. I am not having the Ionic auto-detect, I am selecting swim prior to my workout. Any suggestions?

Wow that is weird. As it used to work for you and now isnt, it is unlikely to be something you are doing, unless you have changed the way you swim as you get tired. Which does sound rather unlikely. So I really dont know what to suggest. Sorry

Nice to see that you're digging into the Forums @NellyG, let me give you a warm welcome to our Community @jgerson18.

That's really odd! Thanks for sharing all those details. Your device tries to identify lengths each time you swim, so you may still see an estimated number of lengths after your open water swim. In addition to completing only a handful of laps or stopping to rest often, inconsistencies in your swim data may be caused by any of the following:

  • Stopping to rest midway across the pool
  • Resting for longer than 60 seconds after completing a pool length
  • Changing stroke type midway across the pool
  • Swimming with a kickboard or not using your hands
  • Swimming less than the minimum duration set to be auto-recognized
  • The units for the pool length setting don't match the units you use for your Fitbit settings. For example if you measure length in feet and inches, and specify a pool length in meters. For more information, see How do I update my Fitbit settings?

If you've have already checked all those steps. I'd consider performing a factory reset and start all over again. Then we can check how is this working, otherwise we might have to follow up with our support team. I can request a case for you.

Give it a try and let me know if you need anything else.

Hi there, I am having a very similar issue.

I have done 2 swims this week and the calculations are not accurate.

I have just done 16 lengths of a 50m pool but my fitbit is showing 24. It seemed to duplicate some lengths midway through the swim.

Thanks
