Ionic not measuring GPS distance accurately since update

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Recently updated Firmware to 27.71.6.19

Went for jog last night on same route as i have several times before.  all other times distance registered at 3.11-3.12 miles. Measured at 3.51 last night.  Manually mapped it out on Google measure distance to see if previous was measuring wrong and came up with 3.12 miles, same as previous.

Will go for jog on same route again and see if it measures incorrectly again.

@Crazeecanuck A warm welcome to the Fitbit Community. Thanks for getting in touch about this.

I appreciate the detailed information shared. I would like you to make sure you're following these tips for using GPS on your Ionic:

  • Charge your device to at least 80%, as built-in GPS can cause the battery to drain more quickly.
  • Start your exercise and connect to GPS in an area where you have a clear view of the sky.

I'll be around if you have any additional questions.

@Angele_S Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thank you for getting in touch about this.

I appreciate the details mentioned, I'll be happy to assist you. When you track an activity with GPS, your device calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, your device calculates distance using your steps until GPS connects.

Please try the following troubleshooting for GPS not connecting:

  • Make sure that you have a clear view of the sky when you start the exercise. Environmental factors, including tall buildings, dense forest, steep hills, and thick cloud cover, can interfere with your device’s ability to connect to GPS satellites. If the signal is blocked—either because you're indoors, underground, or due to another reason—GPS won't work.

  • Check that GPS is turned on for the exercise. For more information, see How do I turn on GPS for an exercise on my Fitbit device?
  • Make sure that your device is charged to at least 80%.
  • Avoid trying to start an exercise with GPS several times in a row, which can prevent your device from connecting to GPS.

Let me know how the troubleshooting goes. I'll be around if you have any additional questions.
