Ionic not turning on after firmware update

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

So after my previous post in another thread about a similar issue I managed to get my Ionic to turn on; however, even though it WAS on and tracking for about 30 minutes, it has since restarted and is only flashing the Fitbit logo in a pattern of about 9 seconds of Fitbit logo and 1 second of being blank.  I've tried every combination of buttons that I've read about all through these forums to no avail.

I updated my Ionic's firmware last night and now this.  And yes, it's out of warranty.

Edit - Since posting this the tracker has gone back to nothingness black and not responding.

Edit #2 - Since posting my yesterday edit I managed to get it to flash the 0% battery.  Unfortunately that's as far as it let me get.

Hi @Skyl99, welcome to the Community Forums!

Thanks for your update and for trying some troubleshooting steps before to posting over here. To better assist you with this, can you please let me know if the heart rate sensors are flashing or is your device completely unresponsive? If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to check our help article: Why isn't my battery charging on my Fitbit device? and let me know how it goes.

Let me know if you have any additional questions, I'll be here.

The device is completely unresponsive though I have managed to get it to turn on as I posted in my edits:  I did manage to get the tracker working again after letting the battery drain completely (while stuck in a restart loop), recharging and then was able to turn it on but after about an hour of use it stopped working again.  I can look at my account syncs and am able to see exactly when this issue started.

Thanks for your reply @Skyl99.

I appreciate all the details that were shared with me. Since you're still experiencing difficulties even after trying some troubleshooting steps, please try our factory reset procedure following the next steps:

  1. On the device, hold all three buttons for about 10 to 12 seconds.
  2. When the Fitbit logo disappears, quickly release the bottom right button, continuing to hold down the left and top right buttons (releasing the bottom right button as soon as the logo disappears is time sensitive).
  3. When the device vibrates, release all buttons.
  4. Wait for approximately 1-2 minutes while the device clears all data. Eventually, the Fitbit logo appears and the device boots and displays Fitbit.com/setup.
  5. When the device successfully resets, please use the normal out of the box process of updating the firmware. You can check: How do I update my Fitbit device? for more details.

Take in consideration that a factory reset deletes any stored data, which includes all data that hasn't synced to your Fitbit account and your applications, alarms, etc.

Let me know if further assistance is needed.

The device is not responsive to any button presses, this procedure does nothing for this issue.  I believe the root cause is that my device is stuck in a restart loop and eventually drains the battery (which is why I was able to get it to turn on yesterday).

The photos, attached, show exactly when this issue started and how intermittent it has been since.  The large gaps in an otherwise continuous sync (Figure 2) are when the restart loops began.  The syncs that were successful until the battery drained and was able to be restarted (Figure 1).

Interestingly enough - I managed to get my Ionic on after about a day of nothingness.  My Ionic doesn't fully work though... it will receive messages/phone calls but I cannot answer them from the watch (touch screen doesn't work at all).  The buttons on the watch also don't work - the left button will wake the watch from black screen but does nothing else.  The top-right button does nothing at all (won't even wake the watch) and the bottom right button will wake the watch but does nothing else.  Pushing all three in tandem does nothing but keep the screen on, until it goes blank after several seconds.
