Ionic not working after swim

After having a swim with my Ionic on it is now not responding.  This started with it initially not charging then after trying a reset it won’t come on.  There also appears to be condensation on one of the sensors (thought these were waterproof).  Looks like I need a new watch, it wont be a Fitbit that’s for sure.  Less than 7 months old and not working, very poor!

As I've said in numerous posts and threads, DO NOT SWIM or even shower with an Ionic when the 12 months warranty is nearly up.

The WR50 (5ATM) waterproof certification is CLERLY not enough for a sports watch marketed for swimming and water sports.

Some "watches" with a WR50 certification seem OK in water. Not the Ionic or Versa. Not sure if the Versa 2 has been improved? I haven't bothered checking the forum.

they may do something if yours is under warranty. Mine was not under warranty and they wanted me to buy an new watch.  This happened once before to my watch. I let it sit for several days and plugged it in and it worked again.  I will no longer wear the watch swimming.

Thanks!  I didn't wear  or trust mine to swim for so long but then thought they wouldn't market it as waterproof and add swimming to the app.... I don't think the IONIC quite lives up to it's reputation and my reasoning for buying it.  It seems the VERSA has taken off. Thanks for your input! 🙂

Thanks for the note. FYI I’ve been swimming with my Versa 3 for six months with no problem. Go figure!

My ionic worked for a few rare swims in year one. And then last month I had one swim and it has died.

In EU warranty is 2 years so depending on local rules they may replace it though warranty replacements are grade c refurbished.

Ditched Fitbit products completely and moved to Garmin. Much better build quality obvious straight out the box

Mine worked fine for 1.5 years then all of a sudden it doesn't, of course
after the warranty ran out.

Risk management Ben. The waterproof integrity isn't robust enough for reliable imersion in water - particularly post the warranty period.

Update, i let my iconic dry out and after 3 days plugged it in and its
working again. This happened once before. So now I will not wear in water!
But glad its working!

Hello,

I have had my watch since March 2018. I have used it under water on three occasions, indoor pool, but each time my watch stops responding.

What can I do?

Assuming you have read through this and other threads - you should be able to make your own decision.

I DON'T swim or shower with my Ionic. So far it's working 100%.

The whole reason I choose this Fitbit was so I could wear it swimming -  so not using it for the purpose I purchased it for not not acceptable.  I just hope mine stays ok for a bit longer

I hope yours does too. Mine lasted just under 2 years. I won't wear
anything but a polar watch from now on.

Mine is also not working after a swim in th ocean. Although older. Its meant to be water proof. Very disappointed.

I got my Ionic on 11/1/2020. Ironically, I always took it off when I showered. I had never actually submerged it. I went out of my way to get the specific watch because it was waterproof up to 50 meters. I was starting to increase my activity level and was working up to be able to use it while in a pool or lake to track my activity level. Yesterday, 6/20/2021, I decided to give it a try. I was treading water in a lake and the moment I put my watch under the water the screen went black. I took it out of the water immediately, let it dry, and it wouldn't turn back on. This morning, I tried to charge the watch and nothing. I called Fitbit and they walked me through the troubleshooting steps. Nothing worked. Not only did nothing work, my watch was not covered for replacement. Shame on me! This was the second time I bought this watch, and the second time I bought it I bought it directly from the company. I will not make that mistake again! Where I absolutely love the watch, I specifically bought it so that it could be submerged. A coupon after a second time in replacing this watch is not enough. I am so thoroughly disappointed and will not buy another watch from Fitbit. Literally, fool me once shame on you, the second time is on me.

The people on the phone were polite and helpful no doubt about that. But there's customer service for this watch with this specific issue based on what it claims to be able to handle and the absolute lack of their ability to do anything but offer you a coupon to spend more money for their products is I suppose on par for any money making venture that is clearly out to make more money rather than satisfied customers.

The worst part is, I have read these reviews time and time again about this watch and was hoping that with a company and a big name like Fitbit, and with buying the watch directly from the company, something would be different. The reviews are not wrong! If you get an Ionic DO NOT GET IT WET!!!! IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THEY ADVERTISE. There's a high probability that it will break and then even greater chance that you will be out the money and the watch given nothing but a coupon and a sorry we couldn't help approach.

Yup. Similar to what I experienced with the Ionic. Replaced it with the less expensive Charge 3 which has held up fine through a year and a half of pool swimming 1-3 hours/week. Go figure.
