Ionic "Data not cleared Sync and try again"

Was originally able to pair via bluetooth, but firmware upgrade would fail every time.  Today it won't even stay connected to my Windows 10 laptop.  Bought a USB bluetooth adapter for troubleshooting.  No change.  Removed the device from my account.  Removed all software and reinstalled.  Now I cannot find the Ionic via bluetooth or cable during setup.  Support guided me through hardware reset of Ionic and now I am stuck in a Red X "Data not cleared Sync and try again".  Multiple resets have done nothing beyond the Red X.  Waiting to hear back from Fitbit via e-mail now, but I think they are going to replace it.  From all the research, it appears this device is a major piece of junk.  Maybe I should just return it, as it is brand new and never worked.

Hi there.
I don’t think it’s your watch singular that is the problem. Ever since the update my ionic has failed to be found by my phone or the app. The time is about 20 minutes behind. It’s really starting to annoy me now.
the app is constantly saying “looking” and it just gets lost. What ever update they have done has totally wiped out this watch altogether because it is not syncing with the app at all!

How about getting involved for the three other people affected by this problem that don't have a ticket open?
