Ionic registering thousands of steps when not walking

My 2-year-old Ionic started doing the following a couple of weeks ago:

1) stopped registering any steps or

2) registers thousands of steps while doing absolutely nothing

3) battery drains super fast when registering bogus steps.

 

I've done all the resetting possible, and have the latest firmware. Had a similar experience with my Surge, i.e. it lasts a couple of years, then dies. May be time to look at another brand.
