Morning all,
Has anyone had problems with ionic repeatedly opening a settings menu? It started yesterday after swimming.
I've tried a phone restart, but the problem continues. The associated vibrating with the menu opening is also annoying.
I've only had the ionic a month. I thought the ionic was waterproof. Have I misunderstood?

It should be fine after swimming. Try doing several restarts in a row. If that doesnt work try a factory reset (settings app in the Ionic and scroll down to about). If it is still doing it you will need to contact Support (link in my signature ) Let us know how you go

You say that the ionic opens the settings menu @Souldeep, is this the quick settings menu that is accessed by holding in the left button? Or is it the settings menu that you get to by swiping the screen left then tapping on the settings icon?
The Quick Settings only has a few menu options

Thank you both for the replies.
The quick menu that keeps popping up is the one accessed by holding down the left button on the Ionic.
I've tried your recommendation of three restarts in a row. That's made no difference.
A couple of questions;

I've had this starting today and in fact the Ionic sends to think I did over 14000 steps in the night and haven't moved since! I've done two factory resets with no joy .

Argh! My ionic has started doing the exact same thing! I'm glad I am not the only one.... sort of 🙂
Mine is also alternating about once an hour between settings and a vibrating notification. It seem unrelated to an actual notification coming in. In fact, I changed it to NO notifications. But it still does it. I als o cannot get it to delete or clear notifications - I was thinking if I cleared them out it would help. But I can't! If I hit delete on a notification it says "Can't Reply. Please bring phone closer... yadayada...'
I am going to try some restarts in a row. And then MAYBE a factory reset.
VERY annoying.

I'm still not sure which settings menu is opening up.
One gets opened by a push of the button, if there s is the case it sounds like a failure of the button.
I don't know if Fitbit mentions it anyplace, but while the tracker is under the water none of the buttons should ever be pressed.
The other settings usually gets opened by a swipe and touching of the screen.

I tried both soft and hard resets and turning it on and off. It went away about half the time it used too. Not sure what that means. But it is still doing it. I haven't tried the complete3 factory reset... yet 😞
I also changed from one custom clock face to another. I did it about the same time I did the resets. That may have helped.
I also have a few other problems which may or may not be related:
1. When I swipe to the right from clock screen I should get to a settings screen. Instead, I have to press the left button for a few seconds until it vibrates, then swipe right. I picked up this trick on these forums.
2. Cannot get the wifi enabled. It just spins on the phone app for a long time. If I close it and comes back it says password failed. I know that isn't true because I redid the ipad wifi connection from scratch with that same ID/pwd and it works fine.
3. If I swipe left to go to the other applications I cannot go back to the home/clock screen unless I press both the left and bottom right button at the same time for a couple of seconds (not enough to completely reset, just enough till it vibrates and returns.)
Not sure the wifi problem is related... but the others all seem related to the notification screen popping up and vibrating frequently!

The menu that opens hisself is;
Screen wake
Manual/auto
Notifications
On/off
So to open up this menu you have to hold down the left button of the fitbit

Holding down the left button does absolutely nothing!

@HiramJim2 in response to your above post
Point one is what should be happening
the swipe to the right to get to the settings page I the way firmware 2.0 worked, this changed with 2.10. your watch should be on the second version of 2.11 now. Yes music and settings was added to the left button hold quick access with 2.10.
Point two is exactly what it says it is, the password you gave for the wifi was not correct.
Point 3 along with the comment that the left button doesn't do anything, makes it look like a hardware button failure . I would contact Fitbit the link is in the too right if this page and under the Help link below.
Yes @sanderkroezen this menu should only open with the left button being held in for a second.
My thoughts is that the button is malfunctioning and you are best to also contact Fitbit.

@Rich_Laue- you said "I don't know if Fitbit mentions it anyplace, but while the tracker is under the water none of the buttons should ever be pressed."
Can I ask where you heard this? I've not heard this myself and it might explain the problem for many of the Fitbit users in water.
When in water you have the option to start, pause or stop recording the swimming function. As touch screen dosn't work in water, there is no choice but to use the buttons instead.

Fitbit watches have a rubber gasket around the button that holds the water pressure app. Pressing the button may allow a little bit of water to seep in as the button is moving.
Some watches have their buttons behind a waterproof membrane, and these may be pressed under water.
Most other manufacturers with buttons like Fitbit, put this in their instructions.
This page has a nice right up with an exploded view of how the seal works.
And a user who doesn't understand why he has to keep buying watches
Timex has a nice write up on what makes a watch water resistant.
Take notice that with a 50 meter rating is recommended to only swim in shallow depths. So why with a watch rated at 165 feet, wevare only allowed to go down to 10 maybe 15 feet?
Water currents, and your mother vement through the water will increase the pressure against the watch. Diving into a pool is also not advised.
Note that there is a reason to use the term water resistant, because no watch is waterproof since at some pressure will fail.

Well, it started doing the re-cycle between clock-notification-settings more and more yesterday.
It ran out of battery over night... and now it isn't charging on top of the other problems.
Something is very, very wrong. And I am going on a week long business trip tomorrow.
Great timing.
BTW, while I DO wear it in the shower and swim in my above ground 18foot pool I don't dive or go to depths and the pool is too small for any drastic movements. I get it that it is "resistant" and not "proof". But I am not crazy with it.

As far finding an actual fix for your ur hardware problems, the best we as your fellow Fitbit users can do, is recommend a restart or shutdown. If this doesn't work then reaching out to Fitbit will be required.

@HiramJim2 I hope you're doing well! Thanks for reporting this and for trying those steps to sort it out.
I went ahead and contacted you via PM. Please keep an eye on your Community inbox.
@sanderkroezen Welcome to the Fitbit family! Thanks for reporting that you are also experiencing this. I'd recommend performing a restart on Ionic and check if the issue persists. Also, try changing the clock face to another one and check if the same keeps happening afterwards.
@Souldeep I hope you're doing well! Ionic is water-resistant up to 50 meters and its buttons are waterproof. There shouldn't be a problem when using it at that depth of water. If Ionic is malfunctioning after a swim, best thing to do is to contact customer support to have that checked.
By the way, is your new Ionic working properly underwater?
@Rich_Laue Thanks for your great help on this thread.
Keep me posted!
