Ionic restarting itself constantly - won't stay on

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Ionic is constantly restarting itself.  If I touch the back button the screen just shows the FitBit logo, after some time the face screen shows as normal but once it fades out (times out and shuts down the face screen) if I try to "wake" the screen, the FitBit Logo shows and another restart happens.

This has just started today.  I received my Ionic as a Christmas Gift and began using it/wearing it regularly on Jan 1, 2018.  I remove it to shower, I do not swim with it (actually, I don't swim at all), I clean it per recommendations (after workouts, if band is dirty, etc) - my Ionic does not receive "hard use".

I have tried doing the restart three times in a row as I have found as a suggested solution - it did not help.

Your suggestions/recommendations are welcome.  Any help would be appreciated.

You will have to try a Factory Reset (on the Ionic, settings app). If that doesnt solve the issue younwill need to contact Support (link in my signature )

Also, could be the Clock Face you're using. I've tried several - I like to switch it up every once in a while - and have found some to be incredibly unstable. In fact, I was using one over the last week (SpaceX) that I liked. But was having the same issue - Ionic was restarting periodically. When I thought about it yesterday, suspected it might be the Clock Face because the restarting happened when I started with this particular Clock Face. So I swapped it and so far no resets at all. So I'm attributing it to the Clock Face I was using.

I have also another Clock Face that interferes with GPS - for some reason, whenever I use Fit Chronograph (Clock Face), my GPS cuts out constantly during my runs.

So just have to monitor. My first inclination when something starts working differently now is to check the Clock Face I'm using first.

@NightWitch Welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for posting the situations you are experiencing with Ionic restarting by itself. Also, thanks for trying the restart steps to sort this out.

Are you still experiencing the same?

I'd recommend trying first what @SunsetRunner suggested. It could be the clock face you are using what is causing these restarts. Please try installing a new one.

If this doesn't help, please try what @NellyG suggested above. The factory reset will erase every app, clock face, music, etc. That you have installed there. You should do this as a last resort. To factory reset:

  • Open Ionic Settings app.
  • Tap About.
  • Tap Factory Reset.

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

Thanks for all the advice. I talked to customer service. They tried several things, determined my Ionic was shot. They’re sending me a replacement.

@NightWitch Thanks for your reply and for sharing your experience. I'm so glad to read that customer support was able to identify the root cause of this and that they have sent a new unit for you.

I'm sure this will be helpful for other users too.

Once you receive the new unit please follow these replacement set up steps for you to not loose any of your previous data.

I tried factory reset as well..it doesn't work..still the problem persists. I am surprised with horrible quality of Fitbit . N to top it you dont have any setvice centre in India. What should we do?? Just buy n throw if the unit doesn't work.???

@VinayPawar Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for taking the time to post on this thread regarding the situation you are experiencing with your Ionic. Thanks for your feedback and for trying the factory reset.

In this case, I'd recommend changing your clock face to a different one. This has helped other users in the past.

@Tony_808 It's great to see you in the Fitbit forums! Thanks for sharing your experience on this thread and the workaround that helped you out. I think this will help other users who might be experiencing this as well.

So once you changed the clock face everything went back to normal?

Hope this helps. Keep me posted! Smiley Happy

Tried changing click face too..no change in automatic resets.

Yes it was a certain face clock that I changed to the day before that caused my Ionic to constantly restart, IMO. I didn’t have any problems after switching to another face clock

I even did that..no improvement. Talking to Support team on separate thread
but suggestions/solutions welcome. I think Fitbit should enmasse release a
patch for this issue. Many users facing it.

That's exactly what is happening to me. But plus the fact that the battery level goes down by 30% every night so after 2 days the watch goes to 0%. I know sometimes it does restart itself, but it is starting to get annoying every time I find out it is either restarting or went to 10 or so % battery. Can anyone help?

has it always been restarting or just recently happened?

it could be an app/face clock that you've recently added.

my ionic battery would drain quickly when i first got it

i did a factory reset which in my case solved that issue

It is a recent issue. Thanks for your help. I didn't use the factory reset
but somehow it stopped restarting anymore. Still, thanks so much for your
help! 🙂

I'm having the same problem, it's been doing this on and off now for the past month but it's getting worse.

It seems to happen more or less constantly in the evenings now.  For me it can't be anything to do with the clock face as I haven't changed it from the original.  I've tried doing the reset 3 times but that hasn't resolved it.  I also clean it often.

I'm in the UK and I've had my ionic since Christmas 2017 and apart from syncing issues it's been working fine.

maybe it was an app you added

Thanks, but I've not added any apps or made any changes to it since I've had it, so I don't think that is it.

Did the problems start after updating to the new OS 3.0?

I'm not sure, I haven't done any recent updates, so it must have been a while ago and I'm trying to think if the problem did start after that update.
