Ionic screen went blank during marathon

Finished the marathon yesterday…grateful for the grind. However, I am disappointed that my fully charged (100%) Fitbit Ionic failed me and went black during the race! It was completely non responsive to a forced reboot at mile 16. I was in disbelief. I rely upon my watch faithfully during runs to track specific metrics and felt completely lost for the remainder of the race. Is there a known glitch that I am not aware of that limits a fully charged Fitbit Ionic watch from functioning after 4+ hours of continuous use in Exercise/Run mode? At this point, I am extremely disappointed and questioning whether or not I should seek alternatives to tracking my activity metrics.

Thank you for visiting the Fitbit Community, @CDMITCHELL56.

I'm sorry to hear about the difficulties you experienced with your Fitbit Ionic. Thank you for the information provided.

At the moment, we haven't been informed about any glitch that could make the Ionic to turn off during an activity. If you haven't done so, please restart your Watch by following these instructions. Continue monitoring your Ionic and if you ever experience this situation once again, please let us know.

Have a nice day.

Thank you for your reply.  As noted within my original email submittal, I attempted a forced reboot on several occasions at the time of malfunction at mile 16.  The watch did not respond.  I plugged the charger into the Ionic as soon as I arrived home and it restarted.  At that point, it served absolutely no purpose.  The race was long over.  My activity statistics were tracked only to point of the malfunction, mile 16.  Again, to reiterate, the device was fully charged at 100% prior to my departure from home for the race.  I undocked from the charger at 5:45 am, placed in run mode at 7:38 am, and it ceased to function at approximately 11:45 am.  These are the facts.   Is there a substantive technical reason as to why this malfunction occurred at such a vital period of time?

After you plugged it into charger, was the battery depleted? I'm curious whether your watch died because battery died (so reboot woudn't help anyway) or something else happened. When I had Ionic I had problem with random reboots during runs so couldn't rely on it. Always have some backup with you when you do longer run.

Precisely what occurred.  The battery was completely depleted.  Once connected to the charger, it illuminated.  I’m not sure if the cold weather contributed to the malfunction or not.  Since the battery was at 100% prior to my departure for the race, I am disappointed.  I agree with you about a backup plan.  I did not foresee that coming.  Lesson learned.   I have lost complete faith in Fitbit.  This is my 3rd Fitbit watch.  After reviewing a few articles and receiving recommendations, I have decided to move on to a more reliable option.

Thanks for your response, @CDMITCHELL56.

I'm sorry to hear about your decision.

Your Fitbit Ionic shouldn't have turned off during your activity even if submerged in cold water. The operating temperature is 14° to 113° F, (-10° to 45° C).

There is no technical reason why this situation could have occurred. Our team is constantly working to improve our products and services. Your feedback is highly appreciated.

@t.parker Thanks for your comment.
