Ionic shows a "Searching" message

Why is it that while I am either running or cycling I start to record my activity and to my amazement it shows up as SEARCHING? WTF is that all about ?

But then I get home only to find there is a bloody UPDATE is required. Can’t it simply record my activity and let me do the pissing update when I choose to this is a stupid stupid irritating update requirement. This Fitbit is supposed to be helping me with my stress but instead going to give me a **ahem**in heart attack.

Hi @UnhappyKev,

If I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds like you are experiencing two different issues: 1.) the "Searching" issue and 2.) the update issue.  My guess is the two aren't connected, as you would need to manually tell the Ionic to update.  To find out how click here to read this article.

As far as the "Searching" bit, I'm a little confused about that,  I would contact Support.

Let us know what happens!

Hi , it’s not two separate issues it’s the same thing , when I went for a run tonight I set my activity to run and after about a mile I checked my Fitbit and the distance I should have ran is showing “ searching “ , now I know that after this has happened to me on many previous runs that my activity will stop recording my mileage and map and only clocks my total miles ran on the activity and I know for fine fact that when I get home there is ANOTHER update waiting for me , so after my activity I have no Strava activity apart from the miles I have ran or cycled but once the update is done it will work absolutely fine until the next surprise update is needed and these updates are needed every two weeks which is getting on my nerves . App updates need to calm down , I mean once a month is bad enough but 4 times a month is stupid and if it doesn’t stop I’ll be throwing this Fitbit in the bin and trying a GARMIN instead.

Thanks, I 've had that issue and didn't know what it was.  Mine does not show an update required.  I am also sick of the searching rather than recording and losing my run or cycle data.  Ironically the Strava App on my phone works better than the supposed fitness specialist watch.

I reckon, use your preferred fitness App on your phone and ditch the Ionic.

Hi not sure sure if this will help.

I had the same issue with my Ionic constantly searching. Some time ago I had changed my strap to a metal bracelet type and apparently that was affecting the GPS sensors. I went back to the original rubber strap and my Ionic now works fine.

Not sure if this helps.

Thanks, that does help.  I have a metal band also.  May be related.

Although I had this issue for some time before this searching issue started.  >:]
