I got a new phone and my ionic has since stopped logging steps properly. It showed a total of 40 steps on a day I hiked a mountain and doesn't show the option for push notifications from my apps.

Thanks for the details shared in your post. I recommend following our troubleshooting tips in What can I do if my step count seems inaccurate? Please also restart your watch and make sure it is syncing.
Please note that since your have a new phone, you should receive at least one notification from the apps on your phone in order to see the option to turn on notifications from these apps in the Fitbit app. For more information about notifications, see How do I get notifications from my phone on my Fitbit device?
