Ionic swimming not working correctly

Again today my Fitbit failed to record lengths whilst swimming. I had done 28 Fitbit said 13, finished the 80 and Fitbit said 45 lengths. This happens every third or fourth swim at the moment. Other times it is accurate. Anything obvious causing this?

Also, today app changed, and I am no longer post swim to edit the distance which I have been able to do until today. Not sure why this has been turned off? Although to be fair it doesn’t recalculate anything (most importantly calories, active minutes which I am trying to track week to week improvements).

Looked at a couple of other posts today and the screen shots of swimming app seem variable, mine used to show a breakdown per 100m, but this disappeared sometime ago, but others still seeing it. Any ideas to what’s changed?

@LarryRed Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for taking the time to report the situation you are experiencing while tracking swimming with Ionic. Thanks for sharing all of those details regarding this.

It is strange that it is only happening some times. In this case, I'd recommend performing a restart in your Ionic. This should refresh it and swimming should be tracked correctly.

How are you tracking your swimming sessions? Try to always use the swimming option on the Exercise app on your Ionic. Make sure you are following the edit exercise steps shown on this article.

You could also try logging out from the Fitbit app, rebooting your phone, and logging back in to check if that helps.

Hi Santi, thanks for the response. I was hoping to go swimming before replying but been laid low with a cold.

I always use the swimming option, it probably works correctly 75/80% of the time (my wife's has a similar issue on a similar frequency). Will try the reboot, but I regularly reboot the iconic - to keep it syncing. So not sure this will help as this has been off and on for a few months now. Will advise if it keeps happening.

On editing the exercise - followed instructions and can now edit swim distance again. So thanks! (Just a shame it doesn't recalculate calories - my tracking obsession).

My Iconic has been doing the same thing while swimming. It seems to have started after the latest update a month or so ago. It was very reliable up until then. Now I cannot trust it. Sometimes good until a certain number of laps, then may shut down or just stop counting.

The identical issue with my ionic too, from the beginning (purchased dec2018). Tried everything (including different ways to turn at the end of the lap). The ionic simply seems to be no more responsive from time to time. It tracks 10-25 of my regular 30 laps. Sometimes it helped when I paused my exercise and started it again after each lap but that’s not a serious solution. But simply pressing some bottoms several times seems to wake up my watch which obviously goes to sleep from time to time. Sometimes my ionic also pauses jogging tracking itself and fails to receive gps again (it easily finds gps when starting as a new exercise. So: A good watch but an unreliable sports tracker. The salesman told me it would be a quite better choice for sports than the apple watch, i regret my choice.

For the first year my Iconic was dead accurate. While cycling I would compare it to my Garmin GPS, and they were closer than using two different GPs.
In the pool it was also very accurate, although it sometime acted like the pool is slightly less than 25 m. Now I can not trust it. Sometimes it is good for 80 laps then stops completely, or just starts miss counting, and sometimes it is good for all 120. Also on my last couple of cycles it is not as accurate as my Garmin GPS.
So I am also very disappointed. At this time I would be very hesitant to buy another one
Over the last 3 years I have purchased 4 other fitbits, for myself, my wife and grandkids, and was happy with them. 2 were replace because we wanted upgrades to water resistance, and counting of laps.
