Ionic tides info and surfing activity

I pre-ordered the Ionic, but I would like to know if:

 

1- Can you find or (easily) develop  a watchface that has tide information based on the location?. If not on the watch face, maybe an app?

 

2- Can you create a custom activity for surfing? Similar to open water swimming, or stand-up paddle?

 

I had a brief stint with Garmin, and the above could be done. But I really disliked their interfaces and apps. Customer service was also very bad. So I decided to order the Ionic. Now I am questioning if it will do what I need.

I, obviously, don't know if you have any programming experience, or if you know anyone with a programming background, but the answer to your question is a probable yes. The SDK is wide open on the watch and you can create custom apps, you could even create an app just for you and some friends. I've already begun work on an app and the SDK isn't live yet. The good thing about the development platform is that it's based on common relatively easy development software. I think we'll see a ton of apps once the SDK goes live.

Based on the first impressions and apps that people are developing, any idea if using it for surfing would be plausible. I am concerned that you cannot create an app with GPS to use while in the water.
