Bought an Ionic today been trying to get some charge into it all afternoon but it is completely dead
dissapointed,was hoping to start using it
back to shop I suppose?

Have you tried different USB ports on your computer?
Are you changing it with a UL certified Charger?
See this thread for charging best practices. If you are not charging it correctly you could be damaging the battery

I will take it back tomorrow
looks like the Ionic may have been launched too soon
this is poor for a £300 device
