Ionic wont set up on galaxy s5

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I just got my ionic yesterday. When I try to go through the set up process in the app it says found it! And then nothing it keeps giving me the option to restart my Bluetooth or cancel. I had my charge 2 paired before no problem. I contacted customer support and spent about an hour with them and they ended up me there is an issue with my phone. However I tryed to connect it to my girlfriends phone and had the same issue. I don't know what I'm doing wrong here.

Hey there @Clevy86, it's nice to see you around the forums! Robot wink Thanks for your efforts with our customer support and with your girl's phone, nice way to start!

I know you've tried several steps to solve this, but I'd like you to please verify each one I'm posting below:

  • Note that you can't set up your Fitbit device from your phone or tablet's Bluetooth screen; you must open the Fitbit app and follow the on-screen instructions.
  • The software on your phone or tablet is up to date. To see if an update is waiting to be installed:
    • iOS—Tap Settings > General > Software Update.
    • Android—Tap Settings > About Phone or About Device > Android Version.
    • Windows 10—Tap or click Start > Settings > Update & security.
  • The Bluetooth setting on your phone or tablet is on. To find it:
    • iOS—Tap Settings > Bluetooth.
    • Android—Tap Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
    • Windows 10—Click or tap Settings > Devices > Bluetooth.
  • (Android only) Double-check the following information about your phone or tablet:
    • Your device is supported by the Fitbit app.
    • Your device doesn't have a set up or sync issue listed here.
    • Power Saving Mode is turned off on your device. This mode frequently causes the device to disable Bluetooth.
    • (Version 6.0+ only) You have location services turned on and the Fitbit app has permission to access your location.

If you're still unable to set up, let's continue with the following:

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on your phone; wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  2. Try setting up your device again.
  3. Restart your Ionic.
  4. Try setting up your device again.
  5. If you can't set up after a restart, reboot your phone or tablet (turn it off and then back on).
  6. Try setting up your device again.
  7. If you can't set up after the reboot, try uninstalling and reinstalling the Fitbit app.

Give this a go and let me know the outcome!

I just got the Ionic yesterday and set it up on my Galaxy S5 without too much trouble though the update did take awhile (over an hour) I also got the restart Bluetooth or cancel message but just clicked cancel and it went through fine.  Try the suggestions of the moderator above and I hope all goes well for you and can get it setup finally. Good luck

I also had problems setting up an ionic on my wife's S5.  Like another person recommended, updating the firmware got it to work (hers was way out of date).  On the plus side, the ionic is now paired and works fine.  On the negative, like all android updates, the S5 is slower and not as responsive as it used to be.

If you are still running your S5 on Jellybean then try updating to Marshmellow and see if that improves things JB is android 5 and MM is android 6 you should be updated to android 6.1 by now though I doubt there will be any further software updates for the S5 anytime soon if ever although there are some 3rd party (Cyanogen) ones that will take it higher, but don't mess about with them unless you know what you are doing and are willing to take the risk

I also have a straight talk, Samsung galaxy s5 running 4.4.2.  Just wondering if you were able to get the syncing issues resolved so you can use all the features of the ionic?  I've had my ionic since Nov. and still haven't been able to sync to my phone.

I'd definitely update to the latest OS for the S5 which officially is 6.0.1 go to the samsung website and download the software you'll need to update it. This is not rooting the phone but applying the officially released upgrade from samsung for the S5 This Link is about lollipop but the same instructions apply. Best to download Samsungs SmartSwitch software to update (the link to download is on the same page)

Did you ever resolve this issue? I bought an ionic last night and went through the list of things to check and I never got past the screen where it said it found it but then would tell me to either cancel or restart bluetooth
