Is this a system-wide issue or just me? - Dead Ionic for no apparent reason

I've contacted support, ran through all their checklists to reboot the watch. Clean charging contacts with alcohol.  Nothing.  My last sync with the app showed a 98% battery, so it wasn't a battery issue.  Ionic just died and never restarted.   This is my second Ionic; the first one died (under warranty) and was replaced with this one.  Now this one died (out of warranty) so no joy on a replacement.  Only a promise of a discount on a new unit.

My question is, do I go with a 3rd unit, or forgo the FitBit product line?  Neither of my previous units lasted more than a year.   Spending this kind of money on a product that can't last a year is unfathomable to me.
