I bought one in July 2018. Mind you, I was not rough with it at all. I even took it off every time I went in the ocean, because I didn't want it exposed to sand and salt water. The first one lasted until late April. It just stopped accepting a charge and died. It was still under warranty, so Fitbit replaced it. Well, here I am now in early September 2019. The thing went completely haywire. It started counting steps when I wasn't wearing it. I woke up in the morning to find that I "walked" 45,000 steps in the past few hours. Then, the battery died. Fitbit won't replace it now, because it is 6 weeks out of warranty. The best they could do was offer me 25% off another purchase. Why would I buy anything else from them? I'm back to wearing my $25 5-year old Timex.

The added steps could been because near a vibration source like a fan, dehumidifier, or even a computer CPU? It can see the vibration as steps and add false steps.
I'm sorry but I'm sticking with Fitbit. Mine is over 3 years old and work just fine

The device was on a granite countertop, and I'm not in an earthquake zone, so there was absolutely no movement causing the added steps.
