Lack of apps in UK

Hi,

I am based in the UK and disappointed with the Ionic. For me it doesn't represent value for money and feels like it was launched too early here.

The lack of apps, Fitbit pay not working, lack of a music streaming partner and not being able to use my FitStar subscriptions, left me with a sense of disappointment. I have been with Fitbit from the days when the flex was their top model and always loved the anticipation of  upgrading going from the flex to the charge, charge HR, and Blaze...but this time I feel Fitbit got it so wrong.

I feel fleeced, a victim of a great marketing campaign which was full of promise. Fitbit customer service say my complaint is in isolation....I suspect Ibam not the only one unhappy upgrading from the Blaze to Ionic. What are your experiences?

My point of view was that this information was available up front on what would be available in what locations...and while marketing will be marketing, it was always stated that many of these features wouldn't be out day 1.

For me, it's the best tracker I've owned and I love it (previously had a One and a Flex 2)...at what it does currently, it could be said it's overpriced, but I'm happy with it as long as some of the stated things are delivered by sometime next year.  Even so, I won't regret the purchase, but I'd think it was way overpriced.

The way things work today in the competitive market atmosphere (especially tech) is that sometimes you just have to get what you have now out the door with an attached vision to it.

Hi minigno,

I get your point, just feel that it could be more complete. Maybe because I upgraded from the Blaze and can't feel the difference is why I am disappointed. I am sure if I went from a charge to an ionic I would be delighted due to all the additional features not on the charge.

You live and learn and this time I learned my lesson about being an early adopter. It was an expensive lesson as my Blaze is fully functional. 🙂

Hi, @palerose2014, I really like mine because I found that "connected GPS" was very hit and miss with the Blaze, so I love having the GPS on board.

I am surprised though about what you say about not being able to use your Fitstar subscription.  This has been rebranded as Fitbit Coach and was launched a couple of days ago.  My understanding was that existing Fitstar subscriptions would be carried over to Fitbit Coach.  Is that not what you have found?

Hi Julia

I expected that you could load the workout of choice on the ionic. I still have the standard default and have to run the workouts from Fit Star / Coach on my phone or tablet. I prefer the name Fitbit coach through.

That's the thing isn't it? you only went from blaze to ionic like me.  the only 'better' bit is swimming (which i do) So we don't see much of a leap

For me, I'm happy with my purchase and I know that I won't be buying the Ionic-s when it comes out next year... (guessing here) you know, thinner, lighter, more battery life etc.  It'll last for at least 2 years for me this device so it's 2 in 1 and I hope there'll be some good apps to play with as time goes on. It does appear sparse for £300 just now and I'm only here through loyalty to the brand which can wane if they don't stay innovative

I also am a UK based ionic buyer and feel so duped about the lack of Fitbit Pay and apps that I am considering contacting The Advertising Standards Authority. No where in your advertising does it say that you can’t use Fitbit Pay in UK. Also the apps are not true apps they are mostly standard watch functions. If you take out the absolute Pay function, most of the functions (apart from the music, which I still haven’t been able to get to work) can be found on a lot of other sports watches that cost a lot less money. Grrrr.

I totally agree, all the apps except Fitbit Pay and the weather are on the Blaze!

I agree. It is now the end of 2020 and it still hasn't improved. A pathetic choice of banks for the Fitbit Pay service, and other apps not working. I was gifted this Sense smart watch and at £300 I feel very disappointed with this overrated dud.
