Metal band on Ionic affects GPS tracking

I ordered a metal band for my Ionic. I noticed after a couple of walks I noticed the route wasn't being recorded. This evening I took the watch outside and watched it search for a satellite signal in the "walk" mode without success. I took the metal band off and went back outside; put the watch in "walk" mode and after a few seconds the watch connected with the satellite. I like the metal band but the GPS doesn't/

True, radio waves may not travel through the metal. Was this a band from fitbit?
