Mileage does not calculate according to stride length - can anyone else confirm?

Hi everyone, this has been bothering me for years.  I made a post about it here and have talked to tech support, their only recommendation was to turn on auto stride configuration which did nothing.  I think there is a fundamental problem with the way mileage is calculated based on stride length, the numbers simply don't add up.  As I said in the linked post:

My stride is currently set at 30.3 inches.  So far today, I have taken 6,542 steps (slow day).  Calculating distance (30.3 / 12 = 2.525 x 6,542 = 16,518.55 / 5,280 = 3.12 miles).  However, the app lists that I have only walked 2.74 miles, so it is 0.38 miles off.

This has been true for my profile for over two years, can anyone else confirm if this is happening on their profile?

I just did the math on mine and it looks correct for me. I came up with 1.017 miles. My walking stride: 27 in. Watch Steps: 2387 Watch Miles: 1.02
Ionic, retired Blaze.

I don't usually calculate it for the day, but I have noticed the discrepancy when I run or walk on the treadmill and track the activity. The distance on my Ionic never matches the distance I've completed on the treadmill. My Ionic is usually short by ~0.2-0.4 miles per mile I've completed on the treadmill, which starts to add up over the course of an hour workout. I've got my stride set to "auto" so it should be based on the times I've run/walked with GPS, but who knows how accurate the GPS is.

I just calculated for the day so far and it was off by 0.7 miles.

I have 11,888 steps, a 30.2” walking stride length, and my app shows 4.96 miles. Based on steps and stride length I should have 5.67 miles.
