Just got my Ionic yesterday. It doesn't count every step. It actually leaves out a lot of steps. I've kept my eye on it and the counter barely moves. It seems to need really exaggerated arm movements to register. Any way to calibrate this? I'm only 5'2 and I can't really walk around windmilling my arms...

I had the same problem and reported it. I am not sure if they sent a message to the watch however the watch asked me to take the watch off and plug it in the. Leave it for 15 seconds to calibrate. Since then it has been very accurate much more so than my surge was.

Mine isn’t counting even a quarter of my steps. I’m ready to return it.

You should have been prompted to calibrate it as described already. I have a Charge 2 and this is way more accurate. You shouldnt need to swing your arms around at all, just walk normally. I noticed that most of the time you can even watch it count the steps on the display if you bring your arm up to view the screen while walking. I am very satisfied with it.

I had a Blaze for 10 months and one thing I noticed was when I was using my riding mower to cut the grass I would get steps counted while sitting on the riding mower.
I also noticed that sitting in a chair if I take my arm and start to fling it back and forth at the side I also get steps counted.
Do you have another tracker that you could wear to see how OFF the count is?
I might have to pair my Blaze again to see if there is a big difference between them counting steps.
Well just paired my Blaze again and I will try to use them both in the same way to see how they compare. I am guessing that if I turn off the bluetooth on the Blaze it will become a glorified step counter and not sync with my phone. I noticed that when I sync the Ionic it updated my Blaze as well.

May I ask you how or did you get the step counter updated? My watch counts steps while I am driving. I also burn calories (a whole lot) by just setting it up. I kinda getting a little scared and mostly disappointed after the money I spent on it.

I’ve contacted support several times regarding this and sync not working as Expected. All I keep being told is to unpair and pair the ionic again and that the engineers are aware so be on the lookout for an update. I preordered and I’ve been having this issue since I received the FitBit. I’m very disappointed in the Ionic and wouldn’t recommend it to my worst enemy.

I've been having the same issue. Contacted fitbit, and they had me do a step test and in fact step test showed missing about 30% of steps. This was close to a month ago They instructed me to change manually my stride length, and that has not helped the issue either. We purchased 2 one for me and one for my wife at over $600 bucks total and hers works and mine still does not. Really disappointed. Wish I hadn't given my Charge 2 to my mom and my wife's to our daughter because I would go back to using it and return this Ionic.

Sportionary: has your issue been resolved? My Ionic is under counting indoor steps by more than 30%. It seems more accurate when I’m actually going for a walk, probably due to swinging my arms which I do not routinely do inside. I spent over 40 minutes on the phone with Fitbit help this morning and did multiple syncs, and a factory reset and the issue has not improved. I should have stayed with my old HR even with its broken band!

It has actually, by no help of fitbit help desk. I too spent time on the phone ect. Eventually my Ionic asked me to re-calibrate again. That seems to have fixed the issue, but no resets or restarts or syncs could fix. Huge issue is that I have read on the forums that re calibrate seems to fix it most of the time, but as of now Fitbit has no way to send the recalibration signal to the device, you just have to sit and wait and just hope it asks you to do that. Took about 2 months of waiting and having the issue before I got that notification.

I’m glad yours is working. Mine asked me to recalibrate after my factory reset. Just put it down and plug it in for 15 seconds. Did I miss some continuation of the recalibration? Is there any more to it? Because that didn’t help.

I had done the same exact thing and had the issue. It wasn't till after a couple months later it asked me to recalibrate again that I did it at that time again and it has been working ever since then. Like you the first time with the initial setup it did not count steps correctly

Thundaga93, that has to be one of the funniest entries I have seen! Same thing happened to me.
