Music cutting out every 15 seconds

On my first run today with my paired Bluetooth headphones, and while I able to listen to music just fine while warming up, as soon as I started the Running app, every 15 seconds I would get a "lost connection" message, then it would start playing music again.

I couldn't really handle all the interruptions and took my headphones off. I'm guessing my bargain basement headphones may have low fault tolerance, OR the fitbit is doing something else like checking in on GPS every 15 seconds and drops the Bluetooth all together?

I'm using an IONIC.

Exactly the same issue here, with different Bluetooth headsets and speakers! Still no solution?

Best solution get rid of the Ionic until your not a customer beta tester. And there engineers start being responsive to the customers needs.I also noticed when my Ionic was close to my body the music stopped due to a weak blue tooth hardware.

did you read all the posts in this thread ?   are your headphones paired to your phone too ?

if they are, unpair them from your phone.

I don't have any evidence that the bluetooth hardware is weak. I did notice that having my headphones only paired with my watch (and not also to my phone) fixed the issue I was having.

Thanks for your advice! However, today I had some time to try this again, running in free nature, away from any further bluetooth devices, and no luck ..... music dropouts every 4 or 5 seconds and now I also noticed that songs are playing too fast!

Very disappointing since I preferred the Ionic above Garmin offerings because of this music player and storage features!

Could this be a hardware failure? I'm now on the new firmware but had the same problem on the old hardware, with various bluetooth devices!

Any suggestions how to solve this? Other than just returning my Ionic .... Thanks!

Try switching the Ionic to your other wrist. Thr Ionic should be on the same side of your body. As you run, you are swinging your wrist back, and your torso blocks the signal between the Ionic and your headphones. The signal goes in a straight line out in the open, no bounces.

No, even very close to the headphones the Ionic is showing eactly the same behaviour!

And music playback at higher pitch (chipmunk style) cannot be explained by this I guess ....

My ionic does not play music continuously.

I have changed the encoding to 140 Kbps and unpaired all other devices.

Is there any solution to this problem?

Using Bose SoundSport while running and notice the issues being reported.

Today I moved my left hand across my chest towards right arm and the in & out stopped.  Awkward when running.  lol

Going to put on right wrist as suggested and see if that's better. The music feature is the #1 reason I bought this device for running and it's my first fitbit.

When doing water workout with Ionic and fitbit flyer, the music cuts out whenever my hand goes under the water.  Is there something I'm missing or am I not going to be able to wear this while working out in the pool.

I ran today on pavement, switched ionic to right wrist, changed setting to dominant wrist and the music played fine.  Will test this on the trails next.

Kbugmama,

you are correct, the Bluetooth signal (from any device) will be blocked by a few inches of water. It's not going to work for pool workouts unless you somehow keep it out of the water.

Tested on right wrist today on the trails and no issues.

Happy so far with music feature.

Same issues as everyone else, music cuts in and out playing on ionic and well functioning Bluetooth headphones. So annoying. I was wondering if this could be a temperature (cold) issue? Works indoor (but stationary) Fitbit obviously did little to no testing before releasing. I will not put up with this for too long.

Might have found the solution for my problem (music dropouts every 4-5 seconds and music playback at higher pitch / chipmunk style)! Just before returning my Ionic I did one final attempt with a recently purchased set of BT earphones, and now it works perfectly! Turns out that my other BT speakers and earphones all use the older BT 3.0 protocol (however just a few years old), while the Ionic requires BT 4.0 or 4.1. Can someone @Fitbit confirm that this indeed explains my crippled behaviour so I can stop trying to use these BT 3.0 earphones with my Ionic?
