My Ionic is crediting me too many exercise calories.

Hello All - first time poster here. With the help of my Ionic, over the last year I lost approximately 40 pounds which I'm proud of. During that time, my exercise calories have consistently been approximately 10-15 calories per minute according to my tracker.

I got my RMR accurately measured yesterday and the estimate for a half hour of activity measured was 165 every half hour (or 330 per hour). This is vastly different from the numbers my tracker has been giving me and I wanted to know why that is? I know the tracker uses my weight, age, and heart rate but does the tracker's estimate really estimate that badly? Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks!

There's not a good way to adjust for this as you can't input a custom RMR or BMR. What some people do is fake their weight to make it match better. But if you're tracking your weight that doesn't work. What I ended up doing is setting myself for a larger defecit/weight loss speed to account for the differences.

I think the problem is that Fitbit doesn't account for the fact that many of us have been yo-yoing and/or lost a significant amount of weight and this have lower than expected metabolic rates. Add that to the fact the heart rate sensor is only so-so accurate and there's room for miscalculation.

“This is vastly different from the numbers my tracker has been giving me and I wanted to know why that is?”

Seems due to the inaccuracies of the exercise mathematical formula used by Fitbit to calculate calories burned.

“Is there a way to fix this?”

Not really.  But you could do the suggestion box option and see if you can get enough votes to implement a change to the exercise formula used by Fitbit.

Or manipulate your age to closer match your accurately measured RMR and estimated exercise expenditure.  Might take a bit of trial and error -> but might get you what you want.

I tried doing this and I'm still getting the same RMR. Not sure how else to correct unfortunatley.
