My <relatively new> Ionic has suddenly gone completely dead.

It had > 50% of it's battery charge remaining. I've pushed every button individually and simultaneously. Nothing has any effect. Dead as a doornail, so to speak. Is it a coincidence that there apparently was a firmware update recently that seems to have caused some issues(?). This is an expensive instrument, and this is galling.

I also had the same problem. Went to bed last night with 60% battery. Woke up with 0 battery. This is 3rd time this has occurred. The first time, I did not pay attention, second time I had 35% at bed time but this time is not right.

EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN FITBIT: I spent over $250.00 a couple of years ago for a Fitbit Ionic. Figured I would get the best they had and no skimp on cheaper options. I have never ever had an issue with my Ionic, that is until it required me to do an update last week. My Ionic had plenty of battery life at the time of the update 57% (confirmed by someone at Fitbit this week). Well after the update started my Ionic never came back to life. I have tried everything recommended and nothing. I started a chat with a Fitbit Rep online and that person also guided me through the same procedures to try and get it going again to no avail. At one point the Fitbit Rep offered me a 25% discount on a new one. New one? Why should I get a new one, there was nothing wrong with this one until your system crashed it. After I declined they offered me 40% off a Versa Lite Mulberry. Not only a lesser priced option but only in Mulberry color, not exactly my choice of color, by a long shot. After I declined, thats when the rep got short with me, called me a liar (in round about words) and ended the chat but not allowing me enough time to respond to him/her (as you can see at the end of the chat) I was right in the middle of responding when the chat ended. I will post this post everywhere that I can. If its taken down I will post it again. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON ANY FITBIT PRODUCTS. The chat is attached.

Alejo Ch:Can you please confirm if you see green flashing lights on the backside of your device? Keep in mind that the lights activate when there are objects near them.
Me:no lights
Alejo Ch:Thanks
Alejo Ch:To start the troubleshooting steps, please try the following.
Let's clean the charging contacts on both, the Fitbit and charging cable using rubbing alcohol and a cotton swab. Make sure to dry it afterwards.
Alejo Ch:After that, please plug the charging cable to a USB port, then the Fitbit into it.
Make sure that the contacts are aligned when you plug it back in.
Alejo Ch:Let me know the outcome, please. I'll be here.
Me:cleaned with alcohol both ionic and charging cable
Alejo Ch:Ok thank you. Can you please confirm if the display shows the battery icon?
Me:display shows nothing, completely dead
Alejo Ch:Please, try connecting the charging cable to different USB ports or a UL-certified wall charger.
Alejo Ch:Remove other devices plugged in to your power source, or plug your device in to another source.
Me:I did that also. used my iphone charger and still nothing
Alejo Ch:Thank you, Keith.
Alejo Ch:Please follow the next steps: To restart your watch, press and hold the left side button and right side bottom button for 10 seconds until you see the Fitbit logo on the screen, then release the 2 buttons.
Me:done, nothing
Alejo Ch:Thank you so much for following my suggestions.
Alejo Ch:Since we have exhausted all troubleshooting related let's continue with checking your Fitbit warranty status.
Alejo Ch:May I ask, what's your country of residence?
Alejo Ch:Also when and from which store/retailer did you purchase your Fitbit?
Me:us
Me:United States
Me:Kohls
Alejo Ch:Thanks for all the information provided.
Alejo Ch:Please allow me a brief moment while I check the warranty options available for you, I'll be right back.
Alejo Ch:Since your tracker is outside of the warranty period, we’ll be able to give you a 25% discount off of a tracker on Fitbit.com.
Alejo Ch:Please, confirm that you have received the email.
Alejo Ch:By the way, after our chat you will receive a brief survey to rate my service. Is there anything else you'd like me to check for you?
Me:Thats unsatisfactory. My tracker worked absolutely flawlessly until your system killed it via a defective update
Alejo Ch:Thank you for confirming, it is a second offer of a 40% discount on the Versa Lite Mulberry.
Alejo Ch:On the other hand, we can't pinpoint just what factors might have led to this. Fitbit products are made to last depending on its usage and environment. However, due to some factors that are beyond human control, materials that these Fitbit devices are made of also reach its limitations.
Me:I get it however there was nothing wrong with it prior to the update. The only blame lies solely on your update and thats it.
Alejo Ch:Thank you for the feedback, Keith, we are unable to determine that.
Alejo Ch:Is there anything else you'd like me to check for you?
Alejo Ch:Since we have not receive a message from you, the chat is going to close. If you need additional information, please go to www.fitbit.com/home And contact us back, have a lovely rest of the day.

I'm having the same issue! First the battery drained overnight (despite being full when I went to bed), and then the left button stopped working. Finally, the touchscreen stopped responding and now the watch is dead and won;t charge at all -- despite being new and in perfect condition. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed.

Same issue....just out of "warranty". Customer Service spent 2 minutes instructing me to clean the battery connector with rubbing alcohol before suggesting all they could do was offer 25% discount on replacement. Clearly a defect. I've read hundreds of complaints about relatively new Ionics suddenly going black. Fitbit refuses to honor a common sense policy to replace or repair; recognizing too many similar issues to be coincidental. They have a poorly constructed product and do not want to stand behind a reasonable customer satisfaction plan. My $200 watch stopped working 13 months after purchase and they want to give me $50 off next one. Next one? Why would any consumer purchase another product from a company that makes defective products? Fitbit quickly became the standard, but like most companies they decided to sacrifice quality for profit.
