NON-DRM files being called DRM encrypted when I transfer music from iTune to ionic

I set up a playlist of songs to transfer to my ionic on iTunes. None of the songs should be DRM encrypted, (I made sure to upgrade them years ago when apple stopped encrypting there songs).

But still Fitbit connect is calling about half of the songs DRM encrypted and saying it can not transfer them.

1) Any idea how I can fix this?

2) Does anyone know how to ensure that the songs are truly not DRM encrypted, where do I look?

FYI I am using a 2015 iMac

thanks

Accepted Solutions

From iTunes, you should be able to select one of the songs and command-i (or Edit > Song Info) and then on File tab the "kind" field will tell you the type of file.

You can also view from Library > Songs if you add "Kind" to columns.

Thanks,

turns out some of my files were still protected. Not looking forward to re-downloading the playlist onto my ionic.

easy to find all files by adding the Kind column to iTunes and sorting on it. Thats what I did years ago, when Apple switched to selling DRM-free music

I'm not sure I understand your solution, Ive run into this situation as well.  All my music is DRM encrypted and wont load in.  its taken me all day just to get this far and I found out the problem was within iTunes, where I needed to check the box for "share iTunes library XML with other apps" Now that they actually appear, the small red triangle not allowing to process.  What do you mean exactly when you say "kind", can all my songs chosen not be downloaded.  Do I need to change something or redownload them, that's a lot of tunes!!!

I am going through the same thing, and it looks like if the iTunes music file are AAC protected, or showing up that DRM encrypted they will not play on anything other then a Apple product. Would have been nice to know before right?

Apple Music? Same problem as Spotify and other streaming services.

All the streaming services provide you with DRM encrypted music files.

Or did you purchase individual songs before iTunes Store went DRM free? Apple converted all of mine for free after they removed DRM from the store. But they stopped doing that a few years ago. If your computer was offline or something, and you still have a lot of music with DRM, then you can do iTunes Match to get them replaced.

I'm having a similar problem.   Recently bought a fitbit ionic and trying to transfer music from itunes.  I've confirmed that the music files are "Kind" AAC Purchased, not AAC Protected which, according to what I've read, means they should be playable on any device without restrictions.  However they show up in the fitbit app as DRM encrypted when I try to transfer the playlist.  Any idea how to fix this?
