12/2018: Currently getting my second replacement sent to me. I bought it originally in March and then the screen turned off/died within 3-4 months. Fitbit quickly sent me a replacement hardware/face and that worked for another 3-4 months but now again the screen is malfunctioning. I am waiting again for a replacement to give it one more try but have honestly lost faith in this product. This time I am getting a complete replacement with new bands/charging cords to see if that makes a difference. I am extremely active in running, biking, swimming, hiking, kayaks, etc and don't believe the fitbit is durable enough for my lifestyle.
Really sad because I switched to this from the apple watch and love it for many reasons such as battery life BUT the product has been faulty for me.
8/22/19: Going through a 4th claim for yet another malfunctioning fitbit. None of the replacements I've received from my original March/2018 have lasted more then 4-6 months. The current problem (from my 12/2018 "brand new" fitbit that was sent to me is my fitbit not keeping the charge more then 7 hours. I bought Asurion back in March 2018 for it originally so going through them this time since fitbit won't do anything now. "it's outside the year factory warranty" despite the last fitbit "fix" received months ago. Not a durable product at all for those that are very active!

It depends. Durability when performing extreme sports is very questionable. Before my Ionic stopped working, I got a number of scratches on (screen and bevel). Fitbit said Ionic is not scratch-proof despite advertising it for extreme sports, too. One time the strap just disconnected in the middle of activity and my watch fell from a height of about 11 meters but the fall was rather soft and no serious damage done except new scratches. I'm not sure about other sports like running or cycling - those rarely produce any damage to any watch. I had minor accidents while cycling and the watch didn't suffer. Frankly, just looking at Ionic one can figure out it's just a plastic toy and shouldn't be worn during activities which may involve any sort of impact and potentially damage the watch.
