Notifications Won't Work after Update to 33.1.30

I updated my Ionic to Version 33.1.30 & now my notifications won't work because the Ionic won't stayed paired on Bluetooth.  On my iPhone, under Settings, I can connect, but when I go to the app to pair Notifications, it continues to run & then read "Bluetooth Pairing Failed". When I go back to the phone Settings, it shows that it's no longer connected.  I've noticed that the Connect Phone screen on the Ionic is now different, too, with a new "source" & "output" screen, & it reads to pair my phone in my Settings.  I've restarted the phone, the app, the Ionic, but nothing seems to work.

Thanks for stopping by @awwunicorns. Also, thanks for letting me know what steps you've tried to get notifications again. Sorry it didn't work.

We haven't heard about the new version causing this issues to other devices. But you can check a couple of details about Fitbit Ionic connectivity with iPhones. What model of iPhone are you using? Make sure it is up to date too.

  • Your phone was too far away. It must be within 30 feet of your Fitbit device to transmit the notification.
  • You're using another Bluetooth product. If you have Bluetooth products like speakers, headsets, or car stereos paired to your phone along with your Fitbit device, you may have trouble using more than one at the same time. For example, turning on your speaker might stop your phone from sending a notification or syncing.
  • The app that should send the notification can't do so

If after doing these you're still having troubles, let's do the following:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon >  your device image.
  2. Tap Notifications.
  3. Turn off all notifications
  4. Restart your phone.
  5. Open the Fitbit app and turn notifications back on.

If the issue persists, let's setup the your Fitbit Ionic again:

  1. Tell your phone to "forget" your device, removing the connection between the phone and the Fitbit device.
    • On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and find your Fitbit device in the list.
    • Find an option to forget the device.
  2. Open the Fitbit app and remove your Ionic from the account
  3. Restart your Ionic
  4. Follow the set up process again

Give this a go and let me know the outcome!

I have tried everything but I can't turn on notification after I upgraded to 33.1.30 few days ago.  I am using iPhone X and everything was working prior to firmware upgrade.  Now, I have iPhone paired and I can sync just fine.  When I try to turn on notification, it tries to pair and fails because Ionic is already connected.  It is very frustrating.

I am having a similar issue - no error message however. iPhone 8+, Ionic w/ 33.1.30.

Notifications stop working completely after a day or so. If I turn the Fitbit off/back on (through settings/about/etc) notifications will work again for a day or so. Then mysteriously stop all together again.

Un-pairing from BT, rebooting phone, turning BT off/on do not seem to help. Only cycling power to the Fitbit directly.

All notifications - call, text, and custom apps such as Gmail, Outlook, etc. effected.

Very frustrating!!

Here's the statement given to me during a support session with Fitbit Support concerning the same issue I am experiencing with Fitbit Ionic Watch (version 27.33.130) paired with an iPhone X (iOS 12.3.1):

Thanks for letting us know about this issue. We’re aware of it, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future. We'll continue to monitor the situation, and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers. We understand that this isn't the resolution you're hoping for, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products. We're sorry for any trouble. We appreciate your patience and look forward to getting you back on track.

Has anyone gotten any communication from Fitbit if this issue is related to defective hardware or a bug in the upgrade ? It would save a ton of frustration for users and would avoid having to send the device back to Fitbit for an exchange to a refurbished unit. I can deal with not getting timely syncs and no notififications temporarily but I cannot endure the constant and repetitive process of the steps the Help Desk make you go through. If there is a software fix for a known issue with the previous upgrade, this needs to be done ASAP. If there is defective hardware, it needs to be recalled and not at the expense and time of the customer.Fitbit needs to be up front with their communication or they will lose credibility and future customers and ultimately this will be reflected to the stockholders.

I do not believe Fitbit has officially acknowledged the problem.  And I do not believe they ever will..  Yet, they continue to sell this device to consumers while knowing there's a defect with the hardware, software, firmware or etc.  This is a lack of good business practices and behavior, that will not lead to a positive outcome on their behalf.
