Only counting stairs if in exercise mode or right after

So my Ionic has been acting a little weird lately. It won't count stairs. But then I realized if I was in exercise mode (like out on a walk/ run) then it would count stairs and be okay for a few minutes. But then it would stop counting my stairs in my house (it has always counted them fine until a couple weeks ago). Also, I did spinning this morning and it counted the stairs in my house right after that. But then it goes back to not counting them after I rest a while.

Any ideas what might be going on?

How tall are your ceilings @joeboyer?

8 feet-ish. They're kind of low but they have almost always counted as a flight of stairs in Fitbit's algorithms until about 2-3 weeks ago. And it still counts them if I'm in exercise mode. Weirder thing is that I even went on a hike a few weeks ago and I got steps, miles, calories, active minutes, but not stairs (I wasn't in exercise mode).

You may have to raise your hand at the top of the stairs, Fitbit looks for 10 feet. Even at this it is looking at a weight difference less than the weight of 2 square inches of paper.

Thanks for the response. I’m pretty sure there’sa malfunction though because, as I had mentioned, I went on a hike and it didn’t count and walk around my neighborhood and don’t get any credit for flights climbed. And also, it worked until just recently.
I do often raise my hand at the top of the stairs and that used to help until this problem started happening.
