Pandora limiting our station choices?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Does anyone else find it frustrating that big brother Pandora, which we pay good money for, is limiting which stations we can select for offline listening? I listen to certain stations when I workout and other stations quietly during my work day. Those quiet chill stations are the ones that big brother decides I should listen to while I workout (because they are the most played during an 8-hour work day).  Then they try and give me an option to choose a few stations they "think" are good workout channels.

In other words, Pandora is proactively not allowing us to select our own station choices to be downloaded.  They only allow an "auto" download of your top-3 stations, or a few stations "big brother" feels are good for working out.  Pandora and Fitbit, fix this garbage fast or I'm returning the watch and canceling my Pandora account.  We, as paying customers, need to be able to select any of our stations do download on the watch...PERIOD.

It's nice to see you around the forums @SunsetRunner! You can either choose to auto-sync up to 3 of your most-played station or manually select up to 3 Workout stations. You can do this from the Fitbit app. To add them manually, please do the following:

  • Open the Fitbit app.
  • Tap the Ionic's picture on the top corner.
  • Tap the Media tile.
  • Tap Pandora and log in/sign up.
  • You will see 2 options: Auto-sync my top Pandora stations and Let me choose from popular workout stations on Pandora, tap the latter.
  • Tap Add Station.
  • A list of stations will show. Tap the ones you want to transfer to Ionic.
  • To download the stations, tap the sync now option on the app or connect your Ionic to the charging cable for it to connect to Wifi and download them.

MarreFitbit, you entirely missed the point by a long-shot.  No where in my message was I asking for basic instructions of how to operate Pandora on a Fitbit watch.  I simplified my message above for you - please re-read my message and edit your post.  I would like to know if there is an indefinite fix coming soon, or do I have to return the watch and cancel my Pandora account (I have been a LONG time customer).  Perhaps I am missing a technical reason we cannot choose from our own stations, from our own station list?  If so, please explain, and not in simpleton canned-response terms.  Most of us are extremely tech savvy.  With all due respect, If you aren't the right person to address this, perhaps you want to find someone else to respond.  Please don't bother responding if your message says anything similar to, "thank you for the feedback, we will pass along the idea to our product team to consider".

As a work-around, I delete all my Pandora playlists except the three I want to sync.   I don't know if that's a viable option for you.    You could possibly add the work playlist on-the-fly and delete when not using.

Thank you for the message, but we are paying customers and should not have to be deleting stations and creating difficult workarounds so we can hear the music we pay for.  Pandora and Fitbit need to step up to the plate and immediately correct this.  However I expect they will probably take the cowardly approach and ignore their customers, or provide us with some half baked answer as you saw above.

I'm on pandora plus, and do the workaround of only having 3 stations going at a time. @SunsetRunner is correct it is a bit of a pain to manage daily.

Doesn't pandora's premium service allow you to choose exactly which stations to download to the Ionic?

No, it is ridiculous and Pandora needs to correct this (or address why they cannot) immediately. Pandora reps where are you?

I would guess, they're on the Pandora support site?

MarreFitbit - everyone would appreciate if you would reread this entire post and respond when you have time.

It's great to have you here @SunsetRunner! I totally understand your frustration as you would like to have the option to download any station to your Ionic. Currently, this will only let you download your top 3 stations. However, a potential workaround just as other users have mentioned is to delete the other and then just leave the ones you want to sync over.

You may also want to vote for this idea Pandora - choose stations to add to Ionic. Those are viewed by our engineers and developers and the best of this is that people can vote for them.

Your understanding is truly appreciated. Robot Happy

Do we know why we are limited to only our top 3?

I was able to add the three I wanted not just the top 3

No you weren't. You selected 3 of their pre-selected stations, not any random 3 of your choice from your personal play list of stations. If you where able to we would not be having a discussion.

It's great to have you here @Honeysfit21. You'll be able to download your top 3 stations to your Ionic. However, if you want to leave specific playlists then you will need to delete the other and then just leave the ones you want to sync over. You can learn more about it by checking How do I listen to Pandora stations on my Fitbit watch?

Hope this helps!

I share your annoyance.  I like a certain pace and style of music when I run.  So far I haven't found a way to get what I'm looking for.  Everytime I try, I feel like I spend half my run skipping songs.  I started up the Pandora account specifically because of my Fitbit.  I am being patient for now assuming it will improve in the future.  If not I will switch back to my old music streaming and just buy and download what I want.

Pandora needs feedback to tailor its choices to your taste. Without the feedback, it can only guess. If you use the Pandora phone app or listen through their web site, you can thumbs-up or thumbs-down individual tracks. Soon, Pandora will pick up on your tastes better.

I used pandora for years and I like the service.  I have given lots of thumbs up and thumbs down so they know my taste.  The problem is that my taste is different when I am working vs cooking vs relaxing vs running.  I have probably 20 different stations I listen to and enjoy.  only 1 or 2 are suitable for me as a running playlist.

I just want to be able to specify the 3 (or more) stations I want and not the 3 I listen to the most.  What I really want is the ability to specify my playlist and not stations, but I suspect that is problematic with their license agreements.

I agree. It would be nice if Pandora allowed us to create separate profiles for each account, and then sync the profile of our choice to the Ionic. For now, I have to only keep 3 stations active on Pandora, and switch those out as I want variety.

I completely feel your frustration.  I bought the Ionic and signed up for Pandora premium, just for my Fitbit.  So, Spotify or no other music stations will connect with Fitbit?  No competition for Pandora with Fitbit?  Making the iPhone watch look more attractive.  Thanks for looking into this issue for us.
