It showed that I went running at 3am and added steps miles calories so I deleted it. 2hrs later checked watch and It showed I went for another phantom run at 628am not sure what happening

@juliebar @cassie5555 I hope you're doing well! Thanks for sharing your experience with us on this thread.

Try using Ionic only to track your exercises. If your exercise was a GPS once, it will transfer to Strava. If you decide to use Strava to track, you will probably 2 exercise entries (the one from Strava and the one from Fitbit). Please use only Fitbit.

@Elijen @Rich_Laue Thanks for your great help on this thread!

When the run was deleted, did the step count go down for the day?

I ask because if the tracker recorded the steps, the days count will not change.

If the run was added manually or through an external app. the step count for the day will be reduced when removing the run.

Ive had the same thing happen over the last 2 days, this morning it added a run with 9,000 steps that i hadn't done!!! When i delete the activity it puts my steps back to normal, just frustrating that you have to monitor this extra activity

Removing the event puts the daily step count back to normal? I'm not sure what is meant by normal, but this tells me that the ionic is not logging the run.

My thought, if it is not being logged directly by you, let's check and see which apps have access to your Fitbit account.

Yes steps, miles, activity, and calories went back to normal. Just not sure why it is happening

I'm not sure thaysthwhy i suggest checking to see what apps have permission to access your Fitbit account.

I am assuming that you did not manually add the runs.

Phantom is the key word answer is no I did not add any workouts. I have checked and the only apps are from the watch.

I am having the same issue with my versa. Every time I set the exercise mode to run when I am finished it logs two runs. Usually the phantom one is 8 hours behind. Sometimes it shows I run at midnight when I am sleeping. Funny thing is that I log no minutes in fat burning zone so I’m obviuosly doing nothing. It just keeps coming back and I keep deleting it. It’s super annoying.

Ive had sträva on my phone for the last 6 months but only having this issue the last 2 weeks but i think after updating strava and fitbit apps its coming from either of these

I took away all Strava links and now it is working good again. I really get everything I need from the Fitbit ap so I don’t need Strava. The ap is still on my phone just no linking between accounts.

I have been having the same problem.  Phantom exercises get added to the Fitbit app after I have completed an exercise.  This only seems to have started since the last software update.   When I delete the phantom exercises the step count and mile count go back down.

Hopefully Fitbit managers are reading these messages because its clear from the number of people having this problem that it is a significant software problem with the Fitbit app since thats where the duplication occurs.

I’m sure it had to do with Strava. Unlink those apps and it started working for me. Also they have a tech support line you can chat with or call.

I had Strava for a short while but removed it because it never worked. That was several weeks ago and before I started getting phantom exercise data.

I will directly contact Fitbit in addition to Fitbit Community.

Called customer service about phantom exercise data.  they didn't have a clue.  They asked me to take a screen shot of the phantom exercise and call back. Since I don't know how to take a screen shot its unlikely that this problem will be fixed.  If more problems keep happening, the only screen shot I may be taking is of a Garmin tracker.

Its too bad, but I don't think Fitbit cares about their devices any more, since they are looking into other health care things to invest in.  This is according to one of their founders (Parks) in a WSJ interview.  This attitude is reflected in the customer service's inability to even attempt a fix.  A picture of two exercises events is not going to help correct the problem. I think its just something do to get rid of a customer.

Wow, you must have had a bad rep. The person I dealt with asked all kinds of questions. She did have me turn off the auto recognize for run to see if that helped. I never did turn it back on. The only other thing I did was unlink strava on the fitbit app and unlink fitbit on the strava app. One of these things fixed it for me. I don't care if it auto recognizes run because I always start the exercise.

Thank you.  Your information is much more helpful than the customer service rep.  I revoked Strada on Fitbit dashboard and removed Fitbit link on Strava.  Hopefully that will work since the problem only started after I tried to use the Strava app on the Ionic.  Funny, but the Strava app never worked when i was trying to link up, only after I gave up and removed it from the Ionic. Gone but not forgotten, I guess, I didn't know about the continued linkage.  Thanks again for the heads up.   Strava won't be missed since it didn't offer any more than the data on Fitbit.

From the Strava information post

STRAVA

  syncs.pngActivity.png

  • Activities from Strava are synced over to Fitbit as manually logged activities but will not include GPS or heart rate data from Strava
  • NOTE: Manually logged activities in Strava will NOT sync over, it needs to be a recorded activity (i.e. pressing the record button in the app)

  syncs.pngActivity.png

  • Only GPS recorded activities from Fitbit will sync to Strava
  • Heart rate data needs to be synced before ending a GPS activity for it to send to Strava (unless you're using Surge)

It was Strava that caused it for me.

Hello everyone! Thanks for reporting the situation you are experiencing with phantom runs being added to your activity history.

I see that some users got this resolved by revoking the access from Strava on Fitbit's dashboard. Please try this out and let me know if this helps you too.

Also, is everyone on this thread using Strava?

Try that out and keep me posted! Smiley Happy
