Fitbit Update 12/05/2017: The official firmware update has been released. You can now just update to the latest release version to get development capabilities.
Fitbit Update 10/25/17: If you'd like to revert from the developer firmware (27.30.3.2) to the production firmware (27.25.16.7), follow the instructions below:

I am planning to setup a new Ionic. I have registered for beta firmware earlier. I don't want to install it on the new Ionic after reading the comments here. Do i have to opt-out before i set it up or will i be able to install production firmware and later be prompted for the beta firmware?

No. I can't achieve the reset step and it doesn't communicate with the cell phone.

I think you should opt out according to the instructions as your first step. Then don't install any new software as it asks until you know for certain that it's the production software that it wants to download. (It won't download any new software without your explicit OK.) I don't know how to tell which software is ready to download so you must find a way to find out for sure.

How often does it get reviewed? I'm really aggravated the customer service took 4 calls, 3 no successful solutions and then finally an email barely guiding me to this solution. They already had me factory reset before sending me this information, I'm still on 30.5.8. I assume I'll have to reset it again whenever my email goes through?

Unfortunately, I did not see this thread before installing the beta firmware. My Ionic is now not charging and not working properly. I've submitted my email to the Google form.

Is there a way to firmware reset the ionic using the hw buttons? During an earlier attempt to reverse to production firmware it looks like the apps failed to install on the ionic, including the settings app. I have a watch face but that's it. The ionic won't sync with my Android phone even though the Fitbit app can see the device, it gets stuck on "connecting, otherwise I would try an update from the phone app.

Holding all three buttons down for 15sec didn't work, but I did get unblocked by clearing out the other bluetooth connections on my phone. That enabled the fitbit app and the ionic to pair, and it's now installing the apps onto the ionic.
