Running more than one fitness app at a time

I need to track distance while running, and also have an interval/hiit program running for time that has more intervals than the fitbit exercise app allows. I can't figure out how to have the "run" fitbit exercise tracking my distance while having another app tracking my intervals. Is there a way to do this?

In other words, can I have the fitbit exercise app running and have another tracking app running at the same time?

@Coconutsyogi   The Exercise app must run in the foreground.  The only way you can have your other app run at the same time is if it can run in the background.

A similar situation exists with the Exercise app and the popular C25K app.  Both must run in the foreground, so you can't use them at the same time.
