Screen wake

I want to make sure my screen wake is set to auto but when I swipe right nothing happens?  I also want to be able to set the screen to always on.  When I'm riding my bike I want to be able to glance down without having to be distracted by moving my wrist.

To get to the screen on settings press and hold the left button for 3-4 seconds until the option shows up.

 

At this time I don't believe there is an option for the screen to be constantly on.
