The fitbit restart procedure has the best chance of fixing misbehaving fitbits. Unfortunately, it's known to not always work first time so it might be worth trying that again a few more times

Hello,
yesterday morning I had same issue like simon after unplug the watch from the charger.
A manual restart of my fitbit ionic heals the self reboot of the device,
but after that the steps increasing while the watch lies on the desk.
On the website i recognized a lot of steps during the charge at night. (the watch never sleeps)
After spending some time here in the forum I tried the following:
1. Restarting multiple times
2. Factory Reset
3. Playing with settings
4. Update Fitbit App
But nothing helps, today in the morning I had 20.000 steps. (the watch was still on the desk without charging and myself in bed)
Here some environmental/usage informations:
1. Fitbit Developer Firmware (30.3.2), iPhone 6 with iOS 9.3.4, which runs perfect until yesterday
2. I'm living in Germany, no Earthquakes here
3. During charging, the watch resides on desk, 1meter from pc
4. My computers has passive cooling and ssds inside, so i think,
there are no vibrations from that source
5. I'm using GPS almost every day, so I charge the device each second day
6. The only reported error is that the coach app cannot be installed on the device
Please can somebody tell me, whether this is a hardware or software issue?
The answers in the forum about the "continues step counting" are certainly not satisfactory.
Thanks in advance
