Hi everyone!
Thank you all for taking the time to let us know that you did not receive Sleep Stages last night.
Our team is aware of the outage and has since resolved the issue. You can expect to start receiving sleep stages again tonight.
I also want to assure you that this outage was not related to the recent OS 1.2 update that was pushed to Ionic users. If you have not already done so, you can safely update your firmware once you have received the notification to do so.
Thanks so much for taking the time to report this! If you have any questions, feel free to let me know.

My sleep stages had been recorded accurately every night since I started wearing a different strap that kept the Ionic comfortably snug on my wrist.
Last night after doing the update, I only got simplified sleep details.

I've never had any problems with my Ionic since I got it last January.
However, to confirm what others have been lately experiencing, I too had only sleep simplified results for the last night (no sleep stages at all from 0000AM to 0800AM CET).
To add more, after charging the watch, which I did it around 4 hours ago (from 1200AM to 0105PM CET), I found out that the watch had recorded the period at charge via the USB port of my PC as an 1 hour and 5 min sleep!!!
FYI, I got this very strange behaviour with the watch still with firmware version 31.1.16.
So, it is highly likely that it is not dependent on the firmware version.
Hopefully Fitbit will rectify this ASAP.

Definitely appears to be an issue outside the update with regard to lower detailed sleep reporting.
I also have not received the update yet, and had low-detail sleep results last evening. There are comments on other device forums here indicating the same.

Ok we seem to have established that the issue with sleep stages has nothing to do with the firmware update apparently. Still no word from Fitbit on the issue though, moderators seem pretty quiet too. I think that is really poor, in my experience when a company has an obvious issue they at least acknowledge it. @MattFitbit Could you update us on Fitbit’s current position with the issue and when we can expect a full service running again? Thank you

I finally got the update yesterday and updated, using WiFi, in about 20 minutes. Don't seem to have any issues, at least that I've seen so far.
Had lack of sleep stages, but that doesn't (according to some of 60-70 email I received over night) seem to be related to the firmware update. It would be nice if Fitbit commented on this issue as it seems to be widespread.

In last 2 days I lost the sleep stages beautiful graph and giving the fact that I did not update to the new firmware yet I think it's the Fitbit server that got broken... I don't know for sure how things work with Fitbit but usually the sleep data processing takes place on the servers so that beautiful sleep graph is not made by the watch or the app... the sleep data goes from the watch via sync to the Fitbit servers, processed and returned as a beautiful graph.
Now about the update.... I made the mistake of upgrading the firmware at work via Bluetooth (because I don't access to any wi-fi here). It's taking forever.... 35 minutes passed and it's at around 20-25%.
It's incredible slow.... please don't make my mistake.
That’s a very interesting point you made about the sleep graph being processed on the server and not on the watch itself (OS or f/w)! If that is the case, I guess we can expect a fix sooner rather than later? Is that right FitBit?!

True, seems mine started before the update.

I think it's not the update... might be the Fitbit server that deals with the sleeping data processing.

My sleep stages had the same issue only after I did the firmware update last night (before bed). Very odd. Coincidence? I also had all-day sync turned off yesterday and last night while I slept, so perhaps that affected the sleep stage issue? I've never had an issue prior to this update or turning off all-day sync. Curious as to what the issue was last night.

Yes, this happened to me. I've NEVER had issue with my sleep details. And last night, after updating, I only received the simplified sleep data. I can only tie this back to the update I did last night. 😞 It better not happen again tonight.

I haven't had the update yet and my sleep stages were the usual detailed sleep stages last night.

That is really strange. I wish we didn’t have to keep speculating and second guessing this issue and get an official update on this. Is that too much to ask?

I updated my watch yesterday and noticed the basic sleep analysis this morning. Usually, I get the split between deep/light/rem sleep and this morning it was just asleep/restless/awake. Did anyone else have the same problem?

Surely it has to be an issue with the update. I think I will hold off updating when I'm finally offered it. Right now my Ionic is pretty stable with excellent battery life, syncing is also pretty solid as long as the Ionic is the only device on my account.

@MattFitbitThanks for clarifying that this was not an Ionic firmware update issue. Hopefully more people will read your post and realize that this is the case.

Just woke up and I confirm the sleep stages are present. Actually I never missed them, the outage probable happened in the middle of my 2 nights (I live in Japan hence the timezone is different than in US)

Well, I was right, It was a server thing... this morning the beautiful sleep graph is back...
I am sorry that no one believed my previous post containing the actual info (got no votes so basically means... ignored).
Also loved how some took the info posted by me and ran with it like they owned, haha
