Suddenly my sleep stages have stopped recording.. The old Sleep graph is there.
The heart rate is recording on average every 6 seconds and I have checked all of the steps as recommended by Fitbit help. Including restarting, full battery etc. battery is at 59% now.
I'm awaiting Android App version 3.9.1 in Australia but I have never had any issues over the last 12 months with my Ionic syncing and recording. The battery lasts 5+ days etc.
The HR graph equates to the wake times etc on the Sleep graph so it cannot be intermittent missing HR.

No changes, battery is at 50% and Sleep stages worked perfectly today.

@WendyBI hope so, and this time I went back to sleep and over the previous 3 days that would have just added another new log for an hour or so with the old system.. This time it extended the Sleep stages as normal..
With my background, it makes me think it is an issue from the backroom servers....
Lets' see .......

@WendyB I lost the sleep stages again, but this time I analyzed the times for the Heart Rates from the 3rd Party PulseWatch and showed up to a a maximum of 3:50 minutes between pulses through the night..
I cut the analysis off at 15 seconds.. So a Moderator could explain this because in my opinion this difference could fit into Fitbit's definition of unstable heart rates.
The watch can't slip over my wrist , but I will tighten it a little more this evening.
Also, should this be under Dashboard instead of Ionic. ?, Sleep Well doesn't seem appropriate..

@WendyB Thanks for that... I have just analysed yesterday's successful Sleep Stages and that had 25 instances of pulse gaps between 1 and 2:50 minutes and we had a successful result. Nothing over 3 minutes.
So maybe a Moderator can through some light on it because it may be the timing difference between the large swings in recorded pulse..

As I know nothing about sleep. Don't wear mine to bed. My wrist needs a rest 🙂

Hi @Colinm39. I'm glad to see you here. @WendyB, thanks for the heads up.
@Colinm39, thanks for letting me know about your Ionic, as well for providing detailed information about your heart rate. You also did a good job with the troubleshooting steps and let me help you out with this. As you may know, the heart rate accuracy can be affected by different factors, such as personal physiology, device location on your arm, and type of movement. Although you've tried some steps, let me suggest to give a try to the following:
Please monitor it not only at night, but also during the day to see if the heart rate is being tracked accurately. If the sleep stages are still not generated, please go to the Fitbit app, tap on your sleep tile > sleep pattern log and attach a screenshot of the message displayed. This will help me to further investigate.
By the way, I moved your post to the Ionic board as this is an issue with your watch not recording your heart rate correctly which is affecting the way the sleep stages are generated.
Keep me posted.

@LizzyFitbit Everything done as suggested.. So we see what happens tonight
I went back through my sleep logs and on the 16th October found at least 3 hours missing.. even though the sleep log showed me as 6hr 45m
Parallel to all of this I had a major operation on the 14th October and released from hospital on the 17th October. You will notice many nanny naps since the opweration but only one failed Sleep stages as above until October 30th. I went to the hospital with a fully charged Ionic and as at writing this my Ionic is down to 23% after 5 days.

z'@LizzyFitbit Failed again last night.. There were 25 gaps between 39secs and 2min 38secs during the night..
I went back to the September 1st sleep stage and that had a factor of 80 and only 3 gaps in time similar to last nights. My Cardio Fitness score is still 41-45 for an 80 yr male and the RHR graphs are normal.
I took all steps you suggested, my App Version 3.9.1 happened to be available and that updated successfully with no other issues. I charged the Ionic to 100%, and wore it tighter on the wrist so that it couldn't slide over the wrist bone. From my signature you can see what status my devices are.
Since the sleep stages came in, the Ionic had only missed 3 and gave the classic sleep graph, now it has missed 6 since October 30th..

@LizzyFitbit I have just done some more research om my historical data and analyzed 8.3 hrs sleep from the April 1st Sleep Stages data, and there was not one gap in the HR collected data other than the typical 5,10 and 15 second gaps.. The average HR pulse data point was 6.9 seconds
So I then started a Workout Exercise between 6-24pm until 9pm this evening, where only 517 steps were recorded. A typical, eat your evening meal, read and watch some TV and getting up for kettles etc..take the dog outside and check some emails.....
The results were an average of 2.09 seconds per recorded pulse and only one greater that 1 minute and that was at the very start while the Workout was feeling its. way.. Otherwise the variation was between 1 and 3 seconds, hence the typical average from a Workout...
So theoretically if it were watch contact issueswith the wrist while asleep I will start a Workout when I go down to sleep tonight and log the sleep when I awake. I have done that before..

@LizzyFitbit After last night it gets more confusing as to why the Sleep stages work sometimes and not others. I even searched through old posts about the red and green LED's from underneath various smart watches which had vague answers about Red being needed for sleep..
Here are last night's results and the 4 hour Workout period and the parallel Sleep period had perfect results.. No missing pulse gaps on the Workout and the sleep which would be logical.
I happened to wake and realized there was 4 hours of Workout there and synced to get the Sleep Stages.. Had trouble getting back to sleep, but did for another 4 hours to gain a total of 7hr 6m Sleep stages. The final sleep stages had 17 gaps of pulse from 27sec to 2m15secs. So that isn't the problem.
This all feels like I'm at the GP's... "come back tomorrow and we will do another blood test"...
Obviously some explanation on how the sleep tracking works when the historical posts talk about Sleep Apnea, SPo2 etc and the red LED's..and HRV while asleep. I understand HRV because I have my own device for that.

@LizzyFitbit Another interesting result this afternoon.. The weather was dismal here today so I went down for a nanny nap.. This became 3 x 1+ hrs and I woke each time at the 1hr period and synced the watch.
There were still gaps in the HR so I must discount that as the issue.. So I'm now more confused than ever.. So we continue to monitor...

@LizzyFitbit I must have needed the sleep.. Probably delayed reaction after my operation.. Phew, 18+ hrs in 34 hours elapsed...
Last night, I had another positive result. Each time I woke up to go to the bathroom I synced the Ionic. The Sleep stages again started off with the Classic old sleep graph, and, eventually after the 3 hours Fitbit produced the Sleep stages..

Hi @Colinm39. I'm sorry for my delayed response and thanks for keeping me updated.
I also appreciate you for sharing more details about how your sleep and heart rate have been recorded, as well for the screenshots attached. I'm glad you've been receiving sleep stages together with sleep scores since Thursday and Friday, and I'm wondering how did your Ionic behave during the weekend? Please note that the sleep stages will be generated after 3 hours of sleep with heart rate data.
I've also verified that your Sony Xperia XA2 phone hasn't been added to our compatible devices list and that might be a factor why the Fitbit app starts off with the sleep patterns and not the sleep stages. However, I'd recommend to force stop the Fitbit app on your phone, reboot your phone and make sure the All-day sync is enabled. If you continue getting sleep patterns even after syncing heart rate data, please provide me with the message displayed on the Fitbit app for that sleep log.
I'll be around, keep me posted.

@LizzyFitbit Thanks for getting back...The error has stopped.. A week of normal results..
I never had any real issues since the Sleep stages were released but I notice in other posts there may have been some adjusting with sleep stages during my period of issues. Being a very retired IT man I can understand what can occur.
It hasn't missed a beat.. A few nights ago even the automatic stitching of 1 hr sleep modules became the correct sleep stages result. A couple of disturbed nights where I had broken sleep but the stages were all over 3 hours.
My sleep analysis is what I expect.. All genetic with me.

Very comforting...
