Step Count/Distance Is Joke

Returning for refund and buying an Apple Watch tomorrow. I’m a nurse and move my arms frequently all day long. Step count and distance grossly inaccurate because it counts many, many, many arm movements as steps. What a shame Fitbit!

I think you will find that many, if not most, wrist-based step counters will encounter this behavior.

Best of luck with your new Apple Watch.

If you are at work just put your watch either into your pocket or you may attach it to your ankle ( like my wife does with her Charge 2 ). Unfortunately, steps are made by legs and no watch will be able to detect whether you actually using your legs. This is a downside of all wrist-based trackers. The distance is measured using the stride length. When steps are being detected it considers that you walked the distance of the stride regardless of how long your step was. The 100% accuracy isn't simply possible unless you use the GPS ( and even then, if the elevation gain isn't taken into account, the readings may get wrong ). This isn't a problem with the watch but the problem with the method used. All the watches will suffer the exact same issue.
