Still can't use Ionic and Charge 3 on same account

Looks like this still hasn't been sorted out. This is a big deal. You've taken critical functionality (swappability) away. Right now I'm stuck using Ionic+Charge 2 because the (new) Charge 3 (I bought) won't play with the Ionic on the same account.

I decided to check Garmin just now and it looks like they allow FIVE devices to sync to the same account. As far as I can tell, ALL of my running friends use Garmins. I already have one brand new FIT tracker (Charge 3) which is essentially a useless brick compared to my Charge 2. Why would I buy another device from Fitbit? I've been in two active community challenge groups for a long time but honestly, that's nowhere near as important as just being able to swap devices..

Seems like FIT is intent on losing athletes, and focusing on casuals.

@andrewilliamson I don't think these devices are for athletes. I can see how my view changed when I was using Charge 2 just to lose some weight and now when I got into sports. I'm not an athlete but what the device offers is simply not enough. For example, I want to improve my cadence due to problems with my knee and advice from my physiotherapist but Ionic doesn't support it. I can't pair my bike POD when I'm training for the ride in June, I can't pair foot POD etc. If somebody is into the metrics Fitbit isn't there yet. However, I'm gonna play here a devil's advocate for a while. If you look at the Fitbit app it contains some different things which usually are not directed to athletes. Food log, weight control etc. Basic metrics are steps, some abstract floor ( that's not even a real metric ), active minutes and distance which, if not using GPS, isn't going to be anywhere near the real thing. What would be the use of it for an athlete? Probably none. But for the person who is sedentary and tries to change something that is an easy way to measure progress and simply get up and move. For an athlete, it's just shiny and expensive toy but for the people who are not that fit, it may be really a game changer. Sometimes I think that my ranting about Ionic comes from the fact that I am not the target audience anymore and I expect way too much.

I completely agree! I was so mad when last Thursday my app dumped my Ionic and my Charge 3. Now I can only have one or the other on the account. I spoke with Fitbit and they told me the engineers are working on this issue. They are running "tests" on it since the Charge 3 is new. I said I have had these 2 paired together on the same account since last October and they were working fine. Then all of a sudden they weren't. Would have been nice to at least get some notice that this was going to be an issue. I also pointed out to her that maybe they should have ran these tests before they released it??

Being able to switch them is definitely a benefit. I run with my ionic and wear my Charge 3 elsewhere because it's smaller and more functional. Fitbit needs to get their act together. Hopefully those engineers work fast and this problem can be resolved quickly.

I believe this claim of theirs is false. It is not a Charge 3 specific issue. They have had the same problem with Versa and the Ionic, and Versa launched a year ago.

As it was explained to me by a Fitbit representative, none of the three of them can currently be included at the same time on the same account, because they are "smartwatches." Which is also not true, since Charge 3 is not a smartwatch. I can't imagine they deliberately chose to prevent accounts from having multiple devices; I'm guessing they just didn't account for this essential feature in their software development. Wouldn't you want people to buy multiple products?

You're right, there was a short stretch when apparently the Ionic and Charge 3 did play nice with each other, but it lasted only a month.

I don't know why this hasn't been solved yet. It is a colossal problem from my perspective, both as a user and as a stockholder. This issue alone has made me seriously question whether the company is likely to do well or not. I'll admit I have not bailed yet, but I'm extremely unhappy that I bought their new product but have no choice but to leave it sitting unused in its box.

Hello-

Still no update or improvement on this issue. What I have been doing and I can do this because I wear my ionic just mainly for running. I go on my run and then enter a manual workout and then at least I get all my steps in. I might be able to just log all my miles for the day because I want to wear it when I am at my parents lake because it is waterproof. I just want this fixed soon!
