In the winter (in upstate NY), I tend to walk a lot inside. This doesn't really help for getting a location from GPS. Whereas my Charge 2 would get accurate location data from my phone, the Ionic doesn't fall back to that. Having GPS is great for the hiking mode, but I'd love to have the option to turn GPS off and get phone location for the walk mode. It would be both more accurate and save on battery.

I might be missing something, but tapping the settings cog, before I start a walk tracking, gives me the option to turn off GPS

@gblinckmann Welcome to the Fitbit forums! Thanks for sharing your suggestion about improving the GPS experience on Ionic. Your idea is a very interesting one.
I was making some research at the Feature Suggestions Board and was able to find this idea which is asking for something similar:
The description of the idea asks for the ability to use connected GPS for Ionic too. However, the idea was categorized as "Not Currently Planned". You can still vote for the idea though. Fitbit often check if ideas get increased vote counts.
If the idea doesn't really fulfill what you are asking for; feel free to create a new original idea.
Hope this helps. Keep me posted!

You didn't miss anything, but I certainly did! Yup. That's exactly what I'd been looking for. And it's persistent between walks. Thank you!
edit: In looking at this, it just shuts off location completely, not using connected GPS via the phone's location. So it's not quite what I was looking for, but it might help at times from a battery life perspective. If the Versa had existed when I got my Ionic, I'd likely have got that way.

The only way the ionic can get a us we are s location is through it's built in GPS turning the GPS off will cause the ionic to lose its location.
